i got a few questions about a zc motor
i dont no much bout a zc motor, just that they came out of an old integra, and that they interchange with a d series. i have a few questions and hope sum1 can answer them for me :-).
1. i have a 88 civic sedan, will i need special mounts to put this motor in my car? 2.can i use d15b8 axles for this motor?
3.how much stronger is this motor compared to my stock motor? besides the fact that stock has 97-105hp. and a zc has 125hp
4. will my wire harness just plug right in my ecu? or do i have to buy a wire harness for this motor?
5.wat r zc motors capable of as far as hp and durability goes.(im not gonna turbo this motor)
6. this motor has been rebuilt wat should i watch out for? i want to take it apart and double check it.
thx for ur hlp.

wow. you really don't know about zc's.
the 89 integra motor is not a zc it does look the same but not even close.
check out thezcr.com for lots of good info on zc motors.
for the answers to your questions
1. if the sedan has the same mounts as the hatch and crx then you don't need mounts. unless the motor is an 89 integra motor. if it is a real zc then it will bolt right in
2. i have a crx with a zc and i'm using the stock axles
3. not sure what you mean by stronger.
4. you will probably want to use a pg7 ecu that is an 89 integra ecu. the ecu will not bolt in the right spot on the sedan, but the wires will plug in to the ecu. you will have to wire up the distributor, the zc has 2 wires that go to the crank angle sensor on the exhaust cam.
5. 4000 hp
depends on how good your tune is and how well built the motor is.
6. i wouldn't take it apart unless you have reason to believe that there is something wrong. how long ago was it rebuilt?

thx, ill check that site out, idk how long ago the motor was rebuilt but the guy said he put new seals, bearings, rings, pistons. but didnt mention nething bout honing the cylinders. thts the main reason y i want to open the motor up and see if that has happened. if not ill do it. i think thats awsome that everything just bolts right up. the engine code says d16a1, and its got a dohc head. thats y i thought it was a zc or maybe he said it was a zc.. i dont remember lol
I don't think you can check if the cylinders were honed, when it gets honed the goal is to get a crosshatched pattern on the cylinder's wall. Honing a cylinder doesn't take long, at least in a lawn mower motor so it was most likely done to your engine.
and a dohc zc motor is the same thing as one of the d series engine, just forgot which one.

thanks jerry
good reply.
oldskool: if it says anything except ZC on the block then it is not a zc
a zc says zc not d16 or d anything.
as far as i know the 89 integra motor will not bolt in to your car.

d16a1 is not a ZC.
to the OP..... re-read every single post in this thread. put them all together and you will have a pretty accurate answer.
but since the motor is a D16a1, id pass on it and just convert to mpfi and keep looking elsewhere for a different engine.

ok thx guys, so i geuss i have an 86-87 integra motor. and if honing doesnt take that long then ill just try n bolt it up into my car and c wat happens, so wat the hell is this motor capable of pushing? as far as hp goes. i got 2 ecu's a pm6 and pm7, which is better? i think the pm7 came from the integra. right?
yes, you'll want to use the pm7. but dont expect that motor to bolt right up. you'll need to fab a little for the mounts.
112hp (or 118hp) (iirc) and vacuum advance distributor is not worth the trouble.

just get a damn dohc zc motor from japan. and these dohc zc are d series so any d series 88-91 tranny will bolt right up to it.

man get rid of the engine, it's not worth the trouble. just get a zc if you want one, but don't use that integra motor

ok ill get rid of it, if its only got 112-118 hp, then i dont want it. i wanna just b able to push 14's stock, or just b really torky and quick

lOL! then your gonna have to buy something other than honda.

the "torky"est you'll get is with a b20. for the amount of work to get that sub-par 1.6 dohc runing you could have something that will actually feel respectably quick in a b18 or b20.
stick the non vtec route and you'll have more grunt at lower rpms. look for motors with longer stroke.
