Just search 'ITR S2000' in the ITR archived posts.

since nobody else is helping, I will.

THEY ARE TWO DIFFERENT CARS. APPLES AND ORANGES. NOT ONE THING IN COMMON. TOTALLY DIFFERENT. NOT THE SAME THING. GO DRIVE AN S2000 AND DECIDE FOR YOURSELF.

I always wanted an S2K until several of my friends picked them up. Extremely limited space, high interior theft, and earlier models have issues with rear diffs etc.

That being said, several members here have made the switch. They are still fun cars, and rwd has to have its daily benefits in terms of fun but if it was my choice I would keep the R.

Off the top of my head, Dave_B, Madspeed, and Trey Commander have all made the switch and would definitely have good input.

I've got a '07 S2000 and a '00 ITR, is there anything in particular that you're wondering?

I enjoy both, but I would not sell the ITR in order to get the S2000.

The rear diffs are fine, it's the driver that's the problem. The later diffs only "hold up" better because of the clutch delay valve in the slave cylinder.

The later years (AP2) do have a little more interior space though, especially for your shoulders. AP2's are fairly comfortable, I had no problem driving mine for a 3,500 mile road trip plus a few 1,000-1,500 mile ones.

If it was an even trade for a new CR in white...maybe, just maybe.

I made the switch a year ago. I've regretted it a few times when I read the type R forumn and see pics. Although on days when it's 60-70 degrees outside, I remember why I made the switch. I'll just give a couple of my personal opinions. I've never tracked either though, so this is coming from nothing but street driving.

1) The S doesn't bring that smile to your face first time you soar up to 7-8k range. The Type R has all the sound deadening taken away, and with the huge crossover, you can't help but shed tears of joy as you rip through gears. The S, you won't have this. It's such a smoother car.

2) Although the S won't bring you that huge smily face, it will just about outperform the R in every aspect. The only huge benefit the R brings that the S doesn't is that you it's so balanced (and FWD) that on your first day driving it you feel like you can take it to it's full limit while being safe. The S, well I've had it for a little voer a year now, and I can personally say I'm still learning. However when it all does click, you realize that it's the better performer.

3) One of the best things of getting rid of the R is you don't have to worry so much about theft. So the S has it's seats stolen, well the R has the whole car stolen. To each his own, it's all apart of owning a high performance honda.

4) I can't stand how people bitch about the space. First off, how many of us who do/did own R's fit 3 or 4 people in them on a regular basis? How many people really use it for it's amazing hatchback space? People who own r's are **** people who try to keep their R's in the most prestine shape possible. Their are a few times that you do wish you could have a back seat or some
trunk space, but it's like 3 or 4 times out of 365 days. And I'm 6'2. I own an ap2. I fit just fine, no problems what so ever.

5) The attention. The R brings a younger ricey crowd. People always ask if it's real, and you get a whole bunch of questions that to R owners, are just sensibly stupid and unrealistic. The S, you get a look of appreciation for the beauty of the car. The younger crowd more so leaves you alone. I sure as hell have decreased the rev counts directed to me by 3/4 since switching.

6) I'm just going to give a brief overview of driving differences. Braking, I don't know, but for some reason this was my favorite feature on the type R. The damn thing stopped on a dime, and I was afraid the S wouldn't give me this. Boy was I wrong. The S's braking has just as good of a feel to me. Tq was also a big step up in the S2000. the ap2 for daily driving has a lot more torque in the 2-6 rpm range. This is nice for daily driving, esp if you do some city driving as I do (I live in Philadelphia.) As stated before, as far as fun goes in the 6-8 rpm stage, no car in this world gives you the thrill that the type R does. But it's a tradeoff, and one i would do the same if I was to make the decision again. The shifting of the S is also a lot better than the R. The throws are nice, short, smooth. The position is perfect. Although don't think the S doesn't have it's drawbacks. For one, the sterio is absolutely horrible. Going 70-80 mph on the highway and the radio as high as it allows you, it sounds like a little mouse. Honda did a shitty job of designing that. Second, driving in the rain scares you a little bit. Since it's RWD, it fishtails a lot on the rain. There have been plenty of times where I was a little nervous driving in the rain. I have a winter car though and have never even taken the S out of the garage when there is salt, snow, hail, anything of that matter though so I can't comment on that. I'm sure it would be aweful though in any of those conditions.

And just to sum it up a little. The S is hands down the better performer in just about every category. You lose a little ease for everyday driving, but then again a good percent of R owners treat their R's in the same manor so it's not like it's that different. Just know when you sell the R, your selling a piece of history. A piece of machinery that changed the way people look at Honda. I kick myself in the *** for this. But if your like me, I live in the moment and wanted the overall better car. I mean the R is over 10 years old, it's way past it's prime. Their is new technology out there.

Piece of advice, if you can afford both, please buy both. I know when I get out of college and find a steady job, I'm going to buy another R and just throw it in storage. It'll basically be an investement for my kids. Kind of like today's dad's keep their corvettes, mustanges, camero's, GTO's, etc. The R was today's version of those cars. Classic and will always be loved by those that understand them.

And lastly, if you buy another car, make sure its black. We all know the black version is always the fastest.

picked up my 01' s2k in januaru. already broken 2 diffs. i upgraded the diff to an 05' and havnt had a problem. i have never owned another honda and i never will except for another s2k or a nsx. i had a porsche 944 and a bmw 328ic before the s2000 and they didnt come close to my s.

i reccomend test driving one and making the decision, its all personal preference. i know that i have riddin in a couple itr's and i wasnt really impressed. when i rode in a s2k i immediately fell in love with it and that was just from riding in it.

he is completely right except i dont know about the younger crowd comment. i got my s2k when i was 17 and i payed for it myself (4 years of payments) i know that there is no way i would finance an integra. also if you go to the s2000 part of honda-tech 98 percent of owners are probally under 26

Some of my favorite cars are "past their prime".

I just hope someone buys my S2000 so I can go back to cars that are "past their prime" and a hell of a lot more interesting.

I do enjoy the S2000, especially in the current weather we are having in Florida, but I can't track it everywhere so that's a HUGE strike against it. It is a fun autocross car though.

Either way, it'll be replaced by something RWD, the firewall will just have to be behind the driver next time.

I've owned 1 S2K and 3 ITR's.

That should be self explainitory. (sp)

S2K's make great "second" cars, but not primary DD's. They are fun cars, don't get me wrong, but they get old QUICK!

I had (still have but for sale) an AP2. And I've got my 00 R.

The S was damn nice for a few particular reasons. Smoother ride, torquier, butter-like gear transitions, RWD, and of course, on a beautiful day you can always put the top down. Nothing feels better than that.

Overall, I like my R more than my S. The S was too flashy for me (19 year old driver) and got me unnecessary attention. Of course, the R does this too, with an arguably sketchier crowd.

My R outhandles my S by a long shot. The S has superb handling, but the rear end is pathetic and whips out far too easily. I would actually go far enough as to call it dangerous. No warning at the crest of the turn, then BAM you're loose at 60 miles an hour. Easy to control when it happens, but there's no warning at all! Really it's a matter of getting a grip on the limits of the car.

And as mentioned by someone else, driving the S in the rain is a pain in the ***. I've spun out in shifting at 3k from 1st to second gear, i've spun out making U-turns in 2nd, I've spun out just accelerating from a stop. It's definitely not a good car for wet weather. Plus nothing sucks more than having a downpour begin when you're driving at 40+ with the top down. Sure, you're dry- until you stop to put the top down.

That all said, if you still want an S, you should buy mine. 2004, white.
