Question about gettin new Brake Pads and Rotors
I need to get new brake pads and rotors for my 1999 honda accord lx 4dr 4cyl and i was wondering if only need front brake pads and front rotors or do i need all four brake pads and front rotors...
How many miles are on it? Do you feel that the brakes are just not biting anymore?
I would change it. 8 years is a long time. Might as well. And bleeding the brakes is a good idea too. =P
(Considering that all the rotors were straight from the factory)

well the thing is that i had new brake pads put in the front and rear about 1 year ago but then i never got new rotors....so its been screeching like crazy so i was planning on getting new front rotors and brake pads for front and rear ...any suggestions?

Noisey brakes huh?.. Screeching?.. Sure you're not hearing metal on metal??. If so, get the rotors and pads. From what I've noticed, aftermarket pads don't really mesh well with the OEM rotors. But since you're at about 175k, might as well replace those rotors if they've never been machined. They might have that huge unmachinable lip on them.

ummmmm what I would do is first give the rotors my own visual inspection..looking for cracks, grooves, gashes....2nd I take it to a break shop and have em do an inspection..3rd I buy what needed and do it myself...new pads on bad rotors is like a paper towel to cover up a whole in your gut that gushing blood...donbt skimp on your brakes...just my 2 cents......
althought I have put new pads on crap rotors! lol if you got the money spend it

just do not get semi-metallic pads, they will cause that screeching. there is a reason why Honda used ceramic pads stock. I did the rotor over hub conversion, with the 11.2" rotors, and the dual piston calipers about a year and a half ago, and the pro stop ceramics aren't even half way down! The car is my daily driver and it has been on there for about 10-12 thousand miles, no joke.
If you have a little more money, I heard about this new stuff, Carbon metallic. Better than ceramic. High heat, better bite, low dust. I have never tried it. But i heard alot of people liked them very much . http://www.performancefriction...h.htm They only sell in Autozone.

I agree, if your unsure what you need then take it to a professional for inspection. Just use common sense and sift through the BS they might give you about headlight fluid and such.
If inspecting your brakes yourself remove your wheels and check the pads through the inspection hole on the caliper. If they aren't worn to the point they need to be replaced then why replace them? Also, rear brakes wear much slower than front brakes.

about the carbon metallics you can get them for an accord for about 40-50 bucks
and they will be lifetime warrantied at autozone
and while your there you could get the rotors for about 30 bucks a pop i think thats what the cost is for the accord ones and those got two year warrenties so
its worth a second to stop buy the zone

carbon metallic is cheaper than that like 29 bucks from autozones web site. don't know much about them, but ceramic is better, Kevlar is best, but also like 100 bucks for a set.
