JDM - SOHC vs DOHC ENGINE SWAP F22B
I am looking at swapping out my F22b SOHC With a F22b DOHC.
My car is a 1994 Accord lx
My questions are:
1. What is the horse power difference?
2. Are the fuel and electrical connections the same?
3. Any other problems I might run into with this swap?
Thanks you for your input!
Ron

Its a JDM engine. Not sure what car it comes in. From what I hear they were not sold in the USDM cars.

dohc f22b is around 160 in hp where as the h22 is in the 180-200 hp range and the sohc f22b is around the 130-ish range.
if i remember correctly and do correct me if i'm wrong, if going from a sohc f22 to a dohc f22 you have to swap your coil to internal i think...it's around here, just discussed recently. so search for it
edit: btw dohc f22b = prelude motor.

tha jdm F22b is dohc non vtec motor that comes from 92-96 prelude si in japan...the engine specs are..160hp and 147tq..my friend had this swap in his 93 accord...after swap was completed motor ran hard..pulled pretty nice...for a 500 to 600 swap id think its worth it...we didnt run into any problems...only thing is that you would need to get a usdm h23 dizzy because your accord comes with external coil..and the h23 dizzy is what you can use...or convert the jdm f22b dizzy to external coil..thats pretty much what we went through in this swap...since we werent able to get a h23 dizzy we had to convert the jdm dizzy to external...
I did the swap a year ago and have nothing but good things to say about it. Car pulls like crazy for what it is. I didn't even change the ecu, just used the sohc model.
I always find it amazing how many people don't believe they exist, oh well, here's a shot of the engine before install

Why, do you have personal experience with both engines?
I do, and yeah the H22 is a good setup but not nearly as good a deal as the F22B. Performance is different, but not by as much as you'd think. Spending the extra funds on the H22 isn't work the extra cash imo, unless of coarse you can find one cheap.
One thing the F22 is great for is torque, and right away, right off of idle, it pulls like hell. In fact if i'm just rolling down the road at like 8mph in gear and step on it, the tires will light up.....i can tell you that an H22 won't do that unless you pop the clutch.

if u want it to do it a lot easyer just swap heads u can put the dohc head on the single cam F22 block its just like changin the head gasket and Timing belt thats it
I paid $600 for my entire engine with 32,000 kms which is like 20,000 miles! My engine is like new as well as the parts that came with it like the alt/ps pump/ ac comp/ dizzy....and for money, its a better deal than swapping a head swap, and a lot less than an H22.

Well, i threw it up on the dyno and it made 119hp at he wheels and 127 ft lbs to the "wheels" bone stock running the original intake manifold and ecu from the original sohc engine. I live in Calgary Aberta which has a very high altitude and always seems to reflect lower numbers, but for what i paid, i thought it was a great return. That is what this thread ia about, correct?
Oh, and like i mentioned earlier, i have an H22 also. Its a good motor, is it worth 3 time the price, i don't think so. The one thing i don't like about it, is how gutless it is before it hits vtec, the non vtec engine has instant power, its something to be taken into consideration.
