new blood to the EF scene
hi, my name is jason, i own a 90 civic dx sedan 5 speed. ive been skulking aroud this forum for a while but im just getting established in the honda scene. first off id like to say hello to all the mods out there, and allt he veterans on the forum. just as a bit of a side note i grew up on the ford escort forums, but im beggining to see the appeal of the civic. up front let me state my purpose in posting here; i want to learn as much useable info about my car as possible about my car and eventually swap in an h22. i hear that its not as popular as the b18, but thats partly why id like to do it. anyways, hope you like the ride

Personally I recommend B series over H or F in an EF but if you must I suggest you check out Adam "redzcstandardhatch"'s build thread @ ef-honda...

hey i can say from personal experience.... 1992 escort gt + mazda B6t powertrain out of a mercury capri xr2 = the last thing you'd expect to run 12s

lol good to see that not everyone here sleeps on the escort (you forgot that they cost half as much to build as a 2 door with a b series running 12's...). this is a honda forum, so i wont say any more on pain of death ^_^. honestly, i want to go with an h22 because thats what got me interested in honda in the first place, the h series accord swap. plus the fact that i'm a firm believer in the saying "there's no replacement for displacement". and besides, who has a h22 in an EF sedan anyways? ill think it over though. if i can stretch my pockets enough, then i might consider a b series.

if you're going for displacement.... a k24 is larger than an H22.

do an H2B its a H22 motor with B series drivetrain. heard there some great Competition for K series and fairly inexpensive. search it and see what if find out. you will have to by a special kit but the K series is really expensive

Well, its a funny story, my friend had a 323 gtx with the notorious small nosed crank which was prone to having serious main seal issues, so after the stock one **** the bed, we found one out of a capri... then when the mazda got side-swipped, onto the compact fords we went. cheap is the operative word tho, $700 for a xr2 motor w/ 56k on it, can't be that for a factory turbo 1.6 liter.
But i digress, welcome to the honda world, where suspension/chassis/brakes/exterior/power parts are MUCH MUCH easier to find.

there's no replacement for displacement, and there's also very little wiggle room in my already tight budget, so im reduced to the "get the most bang for your buck" line of reasoning. still, im sure i can find a way to justify a k24 to myself if i think about it long enough... and ive got to agree, its much easier to find parts for honda's than it is for ford compacts. either way,b k or h, it should be fun.
