another engine light question
i got a 90 crx dx. the engine light seems to come on... lets say in 5th when i go under 55mph or in 4th under 45mph or even in 3rd under 35. when it comes on there is a noticable difference in performance. so i trurn the car off while driving and start it back up a second later and the light is gone and its running better. what would you's say O2 sensor is a good place to start. other than that car is serviced pretty regularly and other than needing a valve adjustment is in pretty good shape any thoughts? i do apologize if this is in the faQs somewhere
Rather than replacing parts or sensors to hope that it fixes the problem. A good start would be to check which code it is throwing.
In order to check the code, all you need to do is pull back the carpet on the passenger side floor board and look for the red service led and count the number of blinks.
Short blinks = 1 , long blinks = 10. There can be multiple codes, which would be indicated by a pause between blinks.
Go ahead and check that out and refer to the chart in this link (about half-way down) for the description of the codes.
Once you figure out the code, we can help figure out why its throwing it.
EDIT: forgot to post link haha

well im not sure but i seems to be blinking only once which would be the o2 sensor right.? i did replace it about 3 yrs ago with the universial one. I was just wondering if the symptoms i explained were common with a bad sensor or if there was a larger underlying problem. also i was told that those sensors only go bad for a reason. i mean if there is nothing wrong with ur car than they dont just go bad out of the blue. Is this true?? If so, what would you say the most common reason for that is? dirty air filter?
lol i dont know you but i live where you live...send me a pm and ill hit you up and help you out...if your oxygen sensor went out it would not hurt performance nessecarily...just gas mileage and rings due to the fact it would be running rich! but send me a pm with your number and ill see if i can help you out!
