i'd say 4k max as well, but that's a stern MAX. I'd say more like 3500, so that it works out to about 4k after licensing.

Also, if you're just going to commute, then don't even bother spending money on the rc51. It's the wrong bike.

A rc51 wouldn't really be much more power.
You're better off with a 750

1. Nothing wrong with carbs.
2. A GixSix is plenty fast enough. Do some trackdays. You'll see.

2000 rc51 is FI, but it's also very poorly mapped below 4k. But if you're just using it as a track bike then it doesn't matter cause you'll be banging around up at 10k anyways.

Whoever said the rc51 wasn't a power upgrade,
The gsxr he's riding makes low 40s for torque, the rc51 makes around 80. that's twice the torque. So what it only makes 120hp, it will still go zoom.

But that's because your bike probably has something wrong with it, not because it uses carburetors. I haven't ever had a problem with any carb'd bikes.

I guess my point is that your bike is plenty good for track riding. Don't be hasty to upgrade because you think it will turn you into a better rider. And if you do want to upgrade, wait for one in better shape.

It sounds like you really don't need to upgrade, but the choice is yours. The RC51 has gobs more TQ, enough to get you into trouble. Why not stick with a newer FI'd 600?

Do you know why the bike has the salvaged title? If you do buy it, don't plan on having an easy time selling it. Bad titles are deal-breakers for me.

How are u going to insure and get tags for a salvaged bike, I dont know how it is in your state, but in MD no insurance company would insure a salvaged bike. And without insurance you wont get tags. Make sure u think that through before ur purchase. Otherwise 3k for a rc51 is good deal

i know he said he might ride it to work, but if he's using it strictly as a track bike, he wont necessarily need tags/ins
