Default Exhaust sounds different all of a sudden.... ???

So everything was all good with the car, I go grocery shopping, get back in the car, and all of a sudden my exhaust sounds a lot deeper/throat-ier, kinda like I have an aftermarket exhaust. I take it in to Acura and the guy listens to it and says the B-pipe might have rusted through since thats common. He didnt lift it up cause that woulda costed $120.

Is this common for the B-pipe to rust through? Any other ideas on what it could be?

yes it's common, especially at the bends before the axleback/muffler

you can get that whole pipe for around 90-120 bucks depending on where you look

I'm an idiot when it comes to cars, I'd have no idea what I'm doing.

Unbolt the old one, bolt the new one in it's place. Depending on where it's rusted it may be up to 4 bolts total. Spray some pb blaster in and around the bolted area to loosen it up a bit.

eh, get midas/mieneke/etc to just weld up the cracked welds if that's what it is.... cost: 50-120 bucks (like the honda guy quoted)

if the rust is bad and you can get an OEM b-pipe, get that i guess and just swap it out.... cost for parts: 30 bucks (from a salvage yard, H-T, whatever) to whatever honda ridiculously would charge for a new pipe.

otherwise, this would be a great opportunity to get a cat-back exhaust. cost for parts used: 150-1000+

regardless, this is an opportunity to learn just a little more about your car. GL

just got back from Midas.

Heres what he said: there's some rusting on the center pipe (i guess thats the b-pipe) and its separating from the other piece.

The quote says:
~F/C Exhaust Pipe -- $233 parts; $67 labor
2 Gaskets -- $10 parts
Nuts/Bolts & Spring Bolt Kit -- $10 parts

Total w/ tax: $352

i've been looking on H/T, Craigslist, etc and havent found any used exhausts/b-pipes. Do I need an exhaust off a 2 door or does it not matter?

What the heck is that F/C exhaust pipe that's costing $233??? That sounds like a huge rip off.

Is your car on stock suspension or lowered? If stock, the guy at Acura could have just bent down and probably looked underneath to see where the problem is.

Lowered.

I think the F/C exhaust pipe is the "center pipe" (aka the b-pipe)

About the previous post about this is a good time to look into an aftermarket exhaust, I was thinkin about that.

What is a ballpark price range for a quality exhaust? Nothing TOO major, but a good exhaust for a DD.

There's a bunch of options under $500 that you'd probably like. Search ebay or yahoo/google/etc. Many places let you plug in your car/year/trim and show you what they sell that fits.
