Hey I was planning buying a b16 tranny and I was wondering if there are any major differences in the b16 trannys. I saw that some are cable and some are hydro. and they come in all different years. And also which one is the best USDM b16 tranny. JDM is too expensive.

 

Any USDM tranny you are going to buy will be hydro. Reason being, the cable trannys are old news compared to the hydro ones. My motor is JDM and it is hydro, but it just depends on which one you get. You need to do some research to find out which motors come with which tranny.

As far as which tranny to use with a USDM b16 tranny, a y21 would work perfectly. It is also the lowest geared. You can only get an LSD from a JDM one though.

USDM or JDM, the hydraulic B16A trans is the same. The only difference is that the JDM ones were available with an LSD. If you have a non LSD JDM trans, there's NO reason to pay more for it than the USDM counterpart. It's the same thing.

What year is your car? anything 92 up in civics and 94 up in integras is a hydraulic operated clutch.

The cable B16As were in the 90-91 EFs and 90-93 DAs (JDM). The cable trans is geared higher than the hydraulic trans.

The hydro trans is MUCH nicer.

lol maybe this should be in the hybrid tech section but im actually planning on doing a h2b swap in the ek. Thats why i wanted to know which tranny was the best to use. Am I correct that they use utilize a cable shift linkage?

The H22 does have a cable shifter. The B/D series has a rod style shifter linkage.

Much nicer.

The B16A trans would be the boss with an H22. The ITR trans would be the big boss. But you gotta pay the cost to be the big boss.

Those two were the lamest sentences...but i'm keeping them on here.

thats right but when people say hydro or cable it has nothing to do with shifter linkages it has to do with clutch actuation method. being that 92-95 civics were actuaded via brake fluid and those of 88-91 civics were via cable. linkage actuated clutches were avalible in the 70's


you cannot start off with a cable trans and modify it to a hydro trans.......

you can swap a cable trans into a hydro car and vice versa with special mounts

maybe you should stick to talking **** about civics and not trying to inform anyone with your misinfo?
