Default B18c1 block topped with a b16a2 Head in an '88 CRX DX--Install Help Please...

Ok, I'm dropping a B18c1 Block with a 2000 B16a2 Head in my 88 DX...I think I can use the stock wiring harness plus I have to wire in the Vtec and the different Fuel Injection Setup, so, My question is...What ECU should I run? The motor is built like a **** and will be turbo'd...I think I should sell my Distributor, Vtec Solenoid and whatever else thats OBD 2 and buy all OBD1 or 0 parts to replace them on the Block and Head...I don't know whats compatible and I really can't afford Stand Alone right now...Everyones input is very Welcome...As far as the tranny options, Is there anyway I can get a Hydraulic Tranny in there without fabricating a bunch of parts?

Thanks,
Zee

Yah, I would say forget about the OBD stuff and use the distributor from a 88-91 CRX/Civic Si. Use the injectors from that car as well.
Get a PR3 or PWO ECU which you can get on ebay for around $170.
Use your wiring harness and just run four wires.
One for the Knock sensor
One for the second O2 sensor
One for the VTEC solenoid
One for the Oil pressure switch.
That's what I have on my B18C5 powered CRX.
I used a B16 Distributor that I had back when I had the B16 in there.

Hey I have a related question, if all 88-91 SiR parts are used, how hard will it be to put the head on that? I to would like to do this, just need more torque.

B16 head on B18C1 block is a direct bolt in.
All you might need is the Thermoswitch, since the B16 has it on the back of the block while the B18C1 has it at the Thermostat housing.

What do you mean use the Distributor off of the 88 Civic/CRX Si? I can use the SOHC Non-Vtec Distributor on this head? Will that be the only component I need to change? And maybe the Water Temperature Sensor...Can anyone confirm that I Have to Mess with the ThermoSwitch to run the GSR Block with the Civic Si Head?

Thanks,
Zee

Also, would we be able to continue to use the same S1/J1/Y1 cable tranny type's, what about the mount bracket in the rear and drivers side mount? I think the GSR and the Si-R tranny is the same spline but i may be wrong, if so what tranny, sorry about all the questions.

If possible you should use a YS1 with type R gearset and some kind of LSD (aftermarket or factory). the YS1 is a cable operated bell housing but can use the gearsets from various B-series hydro trannies. IMHO this would be ideal setup

If you had a JDM B16, and went with a USDM B18C1 you WILL have to modigy the harness to instal the thermoswitch because it is on a different location on the B18.
I've done three B18C5 installs on CRX's and two B18C1 swaps on CRX's.
I cannot remember how many JDM B16 swaps I've done.
You can indeed run a CRX Si or HF distributor with ANY B series engine.
The legs will not match perfectly, but all the sensors and timing will work without a problem. My friend's B18C5 powered CRX is currently driving his car with a 90 HF distributor after his B16 distributor went kaboom. He runs 12.5 consistently.

well i know what ECU you could run....get like a ZDYNE gold if its boosted and all that good stuff....i used thier basic PM8 (HF MPFI) chipped ECU for my D16z6 and it works like stock...Just a one wire VTEC install plus that additional multi port to dual point conversion stuff....so to get some of the head ache out of the way, pay ZDYNE's website a visit.

So I could use the same mounts as on the jdm b16a and switch them over to the b18c1 once the b16a head is on? For give my ignorance, I'm learning. What do you think the compression would be with the b16a head on the gsr block?
