2008 Mugen Si
What gives? MSRP:29,500. Most dealerships are also charging a premium on top of that. Has Honda lost the way? No way a Civic is worth 30,000+. Especially since unlike JDM Mugen vehicles, the Mugen Si has the same power output as the standard Si. Same crappy Si seats (no Recaros or anything for that matter.) Yes, granted you get a track-tuned suspension, a functional body kit that does indeed look very nice on the car, some Mugen 18" gunmetal wheels (I don't know the weight, but I would hope it would be super light and on-par with other Mugen wheels), and a Mugen cat-back exhaust system (that in my opinion is the best looking exhaust I have ever seen and really want to invest in one for my car), but I don't see it as worth 30,000. And yes, I know that if one were to buy a standard Si, add the Mugen kit and upgrade the suspension, they would be spending near the 30,000 figure, but it just doesn't seem right in a factory car. With a limited production of 1,000 it is sure to be a collector's item, but is it worthy? It's not a monumental paramount of Honda or Mugen engineering over a mass produced car. This car definitley won't go down in the books with the likes of the SiRs or Type Rs, or the Mugen tuned editions of both, so again what justifies the price. Will it be remembered only as an overpriced "fad" car of it's time?
On another topic, the wheels are going to be a HUGE theft issue and next would be the whole car to strip the Mugen parts and sell the engine as a swap.
Is it so difficult to get true high performance small displacement cars in the US? We had the Type R for 4 years and only 1 of those was the true Type R with no luxuries. Our Type R was heavier and uglier (IMO). And even still how many were sold (then stolen and stripped) and how many exist today?
Anyone please post your opinions of this.

/boo...I got rickrolled!!!
I hear what you're saying...and it's somewhat true. But Honda knows that THERE ARE GOING TO BE BUYERS regardless of faster performance. I think it looks pretty sexy...but I'll spend my $30k somewhere else. 8)

Our Type R wasn't really any heavier--that's just a myth. The JDM ITR had heavier wheels and a heavier front end. With the USDM ITRs added weight, it was kind of a wash.
The 00-01 ITR was more like a combination of the race-ready Type R and the Type Rx. But, Honda made up for the added weight of the A/C by putting the CTR intake cam in the car and revising the ECU slightly. That's why the 00-01's are usually the fastest in stock form.
FWIW, you probably will never see another car like the ITR in the US market again...at least not with double-wishbone.
