Default Rear hatch on a Pilot

Greetings! I usually post stuff on the civic 2006+ thread, but we own a 2003 Pilot too. My question is. Twice now I have had trouble with unlatching the rear hatch on our Pilot. The first time, I thought it was just not unlocking or the cable was out of adjustment that unlatches the lock. But it started working again! Yesterday it started not unlatching again. I checked the lock the best I could with my hand and limited view, no luck. Does anybody have any suggestions? Thanks.

Coming from a dealership background I can tell you that intermittent problems like this are very hard to diagnose, let alone fix.

If you can take it to a dealer when it is actually happening that will be your best bet.

Other than that my best guess would be a mis-aligned rear lock assembly.

I haven't seen you in the 06+ civic in a while sarge, I had no idea you had a pilot also.

Yeah, I have been pretty busy with the wallpaper business and the Air Guard lately. Thinking of trading the Civic in for a work truck again, kinda hard on the Pilot doing this kind of work, especially when the lock wont work right! LOL Try lugging a big old 85lb 5gal bucket of glue from the back up to the side door!

Thanks you all for the info, I will try to lube it from the inside and replace the mechanism.

Well, my nearest dealer is over an hour away. I am very mechanically inclined, the vehicle is not under warranty, any way I can get the door unlatched from the inside so I can get the lock out to replace it? Lubricating it didnt help any at all. Cable is good, locking mechanism seems to be working fine. Its just not unlatching. Thanks. If there IS something I can try, please email me at shain52005@hotmail.com and I will try it out. Thanks in advance! Time to go home!

You may want to see if your latch on the hatch is loose. It is the one the is on the bottom of the hatch that locks to the striker. If you take off the 2 clips near it and pull it back a little you will see 2 allen head bolts holding it in. Check to make sure they are tight. I have had a lot of 03-04 pilots come in with the latches being loose and some the bolts have come all the way out.

Good luck... This may not fix it, but it is worht a try.
