Window trim questions...
I'm getting my car ready for paint in the next few days, and I'm starting to look at this trim around the windshield and quarter glass... It doesn't look fun.
I found this thread to be useful, pertaining to the windshield.
Is the upper strip really that hard to remove/install?
I found this thread to be useful, pertaining to the quarter glass.
Does the quarter glass really need to come out, just to remove the trim?
Damnit this paint prep just got a lot more involved if this is true.

^ Bingo.
It's saving me $1,000 to do the sanding and dismantling myself.
Anyone have any ideas about this?

The upper strip isn't that tough, but those little clips break very easily. Just be prepared to replace most of the windshield ones.
As for the quarter window, technically you can remove just the weatherstrip portion, then use a heat gun with straight-razor to clean it off. Don;t worry about over spray on the glass at all, a razor will take it off.
On the other hand, since it is your R....I'd just pull the glass in the quarter window. It the weatherstrip heavily oxidized?

^ I thought the upper strip was attached to the windshield? The side strips are just clipped in, I'm not worry about those.
All of my trim pieces are in great shape, still black as can be, no faded/oxidized spots at all.
I've been thinking about having a local glass company come and remove all of the glass... I wonder how much they'd charge to do that? Also, I wonder how much they'd charge to reinstall... I can't imagine it being that much.
Think I can get away with leaving the trim in, seeming as I'm going to the exact same color, just with a clear coat?

You're right, the upper is attached.
IIRC, my local auto glass installer came to my house, took out my cracked windshield, and replaced it. The total labor was only $125, which was about two years ago.
It shouldn't be too costly, pale in comparison to painting the whole car. Iassume you're skipping the jambs/bay/etc?

^ Yes, honestly, if I'm going to have to pay $125 just for the windshield, and God knows how much for the quarter glass, I'll just have the car painted around the trim. I had this done with my Civic, and it turned out just fine, the clear never chipped away, and the paint job was a color change from the existing color.
I hate to think of it as cheaping out on my caR, because I've never done that... But honestly, is it going to matter? It's the same color.

I've have PY over PY (I'm still not sure exactly what was repainted though...) and a liiiiittle chip-away around the edge of the trim. This is actually back at the bottom of my quarter glass.
Previous owner strikes again...

... i'd see it as that. i had my old accord repainted a different color and then repainted in certain areas a second time and the paint started chipping all over the place. i think my main issue was that the painter cheaped out and didn't sand down the previous paint. if i were to repaint my R or any car really worth a paint job, i'd take the time and remove all the trim. it'll be a HUGE PITA to do so up front, but you'll totally thank yourself in the end. good luck with the project.

Don't have it right now man, and it's slow season, it will be a while before I'll have it.
Can anyone think of an EASIER way of removing the window trim/molding? I just need to get it removed in the next day or two.

Ok, this is quickly adding up, just called around, and the best price I could get:
-Windshield removal/reinstallation: $125
-Quarter glass removal/reinstallation: $65 a piece
-Rear glass removal/reinstallation: $100
So that's $355 on top of the $500 for paint... What a pain in the ***. And that windshield price is assuming the glass doesn't break on removal, if it does break, he said they'd cut me a deal on new glass, it would be around $240 total for the windshield labor and parts then. It's normally closer to $300 or so.
It's looking like it's more effort than it's worth right now, for a car that really doesn't NEED paint.

Mr.
, suck it up and just do it.
We outsource a windshield company to come in to repair all of our windshields. Get it done right the first time.

Well that's what I'm saying, I don't want to it, if it's not done right. And sad to say, I don't have the extra $355 right now to get it done right. This town just dies this time of year, I can't be spending like I do during the summer.
I'll figure it out.

Seeing as how big you are and all, let's just say you do two nights out of the weekend at the local bar as a boucer. That's about $75-100 a night.
So if you work one month straight, that's about $300-400 just right there. Now here's the kicker, if you hit on all the ugly girls at the bar, you may get additional tip.

Haha, I work at a bar already duder, it's my 3rd job.
I'll just keep saving until I can do it CORRECTLY. There is no reason to do it half ***.

When it comes to paint I take no chances. Drink a beer and cough up the extra 1k tubs.
