Removing rear quarter window's trim for paint prep... question
Is anyone familiar with how to remove the outside frame around the window... after looking through the helms -- the only thing i can figure is that the entire window must be removed.
I need to paint the rear quarter panel and this is really the only thing in my way. For those of you who've painted an integra before, how did you remove the trim or the window... i tried removing the window using the method in the helms and it was just not happening.
TIA

Ok first, remove all the interior trim around the window, then look for any bolts, maybe 10mm if so then remove then 10mm bolts and carefully push the glass out of the car and have someone catch it. BUT if there are not 10mm nuts or for that matter any bolts holding it then it has been glued in and is very hard to get it out with out breaking it.
you will have to cut the glue with a standard utility blade knife slowly and patently.
Its been while since I did a quater glass on a teg, sorry if I don't recall too clear.

One option would be to pay for a mobile window installer to come to your car and remove the rear Quarter pannel. After the car is then painted, set up an appointment to reinstall the quarter pannel. This is exactly what I did when I decided to color change my car. This way, the window is installed correctly and alot of mobile window installers guarantee a leak free installation. I paid an installer $30 to remove all my windows Not bad at all!
yup hardest freakn thing you gotta do when painting is trying to pop that rubber lining out.. suggest have a pro do it.. sorry if it doesn't help. but tries to put tape around it.. n lil bit of clearcoat came off.. had to repaint..
The window trim won't come out unless you pull the glass out along with it. They have to come out together.
If you are changing the color of your car, I assume that you are having someone with some autobody experience doing it. If so, they should have an air tool that cuts the sealant around glass. This tool with have the glass out in 45 seconds if they know what they are doing.

wow, lots of replies, thx alot guys.
I'm not changing the color however i don't want the clear coat to peel back like i see happen all too often on "tape off jobs" from the molding rubbing on the edge of the clear. I may be able to get away with it though, not sure.
I like the idea about having a mobile installer remove it, thats a very good idea. I have a rear section i got from a junk yard that was cut off the car and it includes the window -- i tried removing it for an hour and i got no where, its a PITA and definatly glued on.
Thx again guys, i guess if i want to remove it i'll have to call around and get a quote.
