Default 1989 accord LX-i issuses

My 1989 accord LX-i has had a funny idle since I bought the car 2 weeks ago. the rpms go up to 1600 and drop back down to 700-900 area depending on how warm the car is. it has 245,7** miles on it so but the engine was swaped with a more in shape A20A3 so the engine only has about 75,000-100,000 miles. Is there anything i could do to stop it like gaskets, fluids, or anything?

How cold is the outside temps. When cold it will start with a fast idle and after warming a bit the idle will go back to normal.

check the pcv valve they are known for sucking the spring and plunger into the intake and will cause a idle like that also check the intake manifold gasket also a know problem with the 86-89 accord lx ,lxi,dx models

Well the temperature outside when i got the car was about 60s now its down to 40s for a high and for the car engine its normal for the car it doesnt overheat or anything.

Coolant is fine idk about the IACV yet....

i think it may be the gasket in the intake manifold... its stock and the old owner told me that he never really took care or the engine. He said that he only changed the oil, air filter, and battery.

Is there any chance that the ground wire thats on the accord could have an affect on this? I changed it out from a 10 or 8 guage wire that was onlt holding together by 5 threads or so to a 4 guage wire now.

which ground wire are you talking about ? the one on the valve cover ? if the battery ground cable was bad the engine would propably not engine start since their is not a good ground.the best way to check the manifold is to spray some carb cleaner at the intake manifold where it bolts up. IACV valves do fail also so yes their is a possiabilty of a bad valve also or the root of the problem.

The ground wire that was from the valve cover to the body. i dont think that would really mess the car up that much if any.
