Go to Walmart and get the 5qt jugs. That's by far the cheapest way to go for Mobil1.

go for motul 5-30, no matter how hot and hard you drive the car the oil when you drain it out still looks good, doesn't seem to break down like mobil 1 or other syn's i've used. and the cool thing is that it is pretty cheap. i get a 5qt jug at my dealership for 25bucks. 3-4 k on a lof and still looks pretty clear.

You are flushing money down the drain if you use high-quality synthetic oil and change it every 3K miles.
if you feel the need to change oil every 3K, then good quality dyno oil (like Castrol GTX or something) or a good syn. blend will be just fine.
And there is no way you are breaking down Mobil 1 at just 3K unless you drive at redline 95% of the time. Tests have been done with Mobil 1 going 20K miles (just changing the filter) and it has come out fine.
