dc2r or evo 7? close pick?
http://www.evolutionimports.net officially has Lancer Evo 7's imported/converted over to the US for street legal use for 45.500 USD on their website.
if you had a choice between a brand new
DC2R (23,750)+10000 USD
OR a
EVO 7 (for discounted 38,000, incl what needs to be done for street legalness from http://www.evolutionimports.net)
which would you be more likely to choose, and why?
Neither car would come with any warranties.

I'm not entirely sure of your location, but the Lancer Evo is coming to the US in January of 2003 and the price, mitsutishi spokespeople say, will be closer to $30,000. If I had a choice between a Lancer Evo or a DC2 R, which is the choice I'm faced with now, then I'd pick the DC2 simply because its within my price range. But the Lancer Evo is one hell of a car. If you look in last months issue of sport compact car you will see just how bad the euro spec Lancer Evo owned their modified WRX. Bear in mind though that mitsubishi will only admit that the US spec Evo will have "more than 250hp", so an exact number is not known, but 250 is the minimum.

Actually, the most recent reports quote closer to $38k when it was compared vs. the upcoming WRX STi.
hehe, in that case its going to be funny shopping at the 3 star dealership... ""yes, here is our standard lancer for 16000, here is the OZ edition for 18995, and for almost twice that here is the lancer evo 7 for 38995"
went shopping with neomugen a while ago for lancers

Trooth, I've been looking all over the net and I cant find any press release saying the car will cost around $38,000. The last official press release from Mitsubishi stated that the car will have a sub $30k pricetag. They usually dont come out and say something like this if they know in advance they will not be able to meet that price. Was this new price relased in a new press release from Mitsubishi or is it just hearsay?
not a fair comparison totally different cars and a big price difference since I provably wont be able to afford the EVO7 I'll stick it out with my R
want what you got not what you want...my dad once told me.

EVO VII all the way tom. I know for 45g's its comin close to a M3 BUT M3 is not AWD or turbocharged. That lancer is a sick ride and I'm thinking about selling my R to get one also. Mods will be easy as hell for POWER. 45'gs aint THAT bad. If you get a bank to finance you correctly then your in business. I don't think I going Honda after this car, I had my honda fill. Turbo and AWD w/ 4 doors sound too damn intising. For the weather out here AWD will be fun all hell in the winter and grip like a gorilla in the summer you just can't go wrong. Hell I may even jump on the 45'gs thing with those mods

As long as the US Version of the EVO isn't too watered down, I'll probably be getting one. Now if I can just convince the girlfriend that an EVO really is a practical 4-door car, I won't have to get rid of the R and can have the best of both worlds!
I will never buy a Mitsubishi myself. Plus there is almost one new generation of EVO every year. Think about how bad it will be to the re-sell price?
Here are some data u guys may wanna know. In Hong Kong, a 97 Lancer Evo.IV is about the same. A brand new TypeR by that time is around 220,000hkd. Used 98spec R with modifications ask for 170,000hkd. And there is always no problem to sell a TypeR.
Another reason that I won't buy, is because the engine reliability of most Mitsubishis isn't that good. For the same generation, u still see a lot of EG Civics/ Corolla(AE101/110)running around town but u rarely see a lot of Lancer. So does for the top models, like GT-R, Supra, RX7, and 3000GT. Yup, there are still GT-R and Supra that still runs really good but I don't see that many RX7 and 3000GT.
My uncle's friend is a local forwarder in Hong Kong. He has a fleet of trucks. And those Mitsubishi trucks didn't last too long, parts availabilty is kinda bad somehow too. Same thing happens on those diesel powered Lancer taxi in Hong Kong. After a few years they all disappeared. Again same year's Toyota and Nissan's are STILL running strong.
Now back to Lancer EVOs, the Lancer EVO.IV always have head gasket problem since they didn't use a gasket that's thick enough. The CR stays too high and blows gasket frequently.
There are not a lot of Evo.4 running on the streets, but more WRX STi Ver.IV.

Lancers, WRXs, STi or TME are always availiable in Australia, Europe and Southeast Asia. But the ITR still has its crowd of devoted fans. Why? Because those countries have less of a drag-racing-mentality than we do.
When Lancer does come out, it will be overflooding the streets just like the nowaday WRXs. And just how many of them brought it to use them properly on circuit or rally courses? Probably less than 10%...

I would choose the Evo 7.. Mainly because it would kick *** to have a 12 second sedan...
Also, I have been craving a turbo car since day one, but I love Type Rs, always have, always will, and that is why I got one.
