how to identify JDM B20B??
so i am currently considering buying a B20 from nippon motors or hmotors. Although they say that the B20Bs that they sell are JDM i was just wondering if there is any way i can find out if they are. For instance if there are any key features, to look for when identifying a JDM B20B

You're confused.
B20B(#)
USDM '97-'98 Honda CR-V
126 hp @ 6500 rpm
133 lb-ft@ 4300 rpm
8.8:1 cr
B20Z(#)
USDM '99-'01 Honda CR-V
146 hp @ 6400 rpm
143 lb-ft @ 4500 rpm
9.6:1 cr
Basically, for the JDM B20s, there are engines with both of these stats. They're just all labeled as B20Bs anyway though. So you could have the engine with the 9.6:1 compression ratio, and it's still going to have B20B stamped on it.

He's 100% right.
JDM motors don't have a number at the end of the engine code.
So over here an ITR is a B18C5, while in Japan it's simply a B18C (yes this creates some confusion between the GSR and the ITR as they're both stamped B18C but have obvious differences).
The B20B was in the Honda CRV in '97-'98 while the B20Z was in the Honda CRV from '99-'01.
Get the B20Z, it puts down a lot more power. Those are the years per the US, I'm not sure if the years were different in Japan, but 100% verification of a B20 block being JDM will be that it says B20Z or B20B instead of B20B4 or such as BlueIntegraBoy stated.

There are NO JDM B20Zs. They're all stamped as B20Bs. Even the engines with the 9.6:1 compression. It's badged as the B20B if it's JDM.
And to add to the confusion of engine codes, not all JDM engines are in the format of (letter) (number) (number) (letter). Some DO have a number at the end, though it's rare and usually is not an engine anyone here in the US would seek for an engine swap.
