Default headers or exhaust?

Im ready to install either headers or exhaust. Thing is I have been rethinking I don't even wanna touch exhaust because I dont want my ride being loud. And it seems like most of the exhaust out there sound high pitched and annoying.

So im leaning more towards headers, but would having an intake and headers be worht it without having the exhaust? would I still gain power? Im no expert, but it seems like there would be alot of air coming in and not enough pipe for all that air to exit...

i would get I/H and exhaust piping all the way until the muffler. it probably will be a little bit louder but you'll still have the stock noise and more power

I have an Apexi WS and it looks pretty close to stock and sounds quiet until you really romp on it. Then it just gets deeper and throaty.

Tanabe or Greddy both make quiet exhaust systems as well.

The intake/RH setup is worth it. I shaved .4 off my 1/4 mile time and gained 5mph in the trap speed. with my setup.

I agree with Rico, I shaved 0.6 seconds with I/RH/Hondata Reflash on a 1/4 mile.

i like the lsd set up what hp gains are they getting from that catback for the fg2. also what do u think it would sound like with a header? do u think it would be worth getting a header and piping yet keep the stock axle back?

A header even with the stock exhaust will create a distinct sound that you will surely notice. Especially in the upper RPMs. With an intake and RH combination....even on a stock exhaust the resulting noise is quite impressive and somewhat intimidating in a way.

I've gotten quite a few comments from people who were surprised at how loud my car was when I pass them at high rpms. You can't really hear it too much from inside the car....but outside it's definitely noticeable from a completely stock Si.

The header will make the bigger difference in power gain over the exhaust. As long as it's a RH (cat deleted).

I've got the Buddy Club header with stock exhaust and an Injen CAI. Once I put on the header, there was a definite increase in power, especially on the top end. I like the fact that my car sounds stock and still gained power. Any race header will net as much HP gain, if not more, than adding a cat back.

this is what i have on my Si an AEM CAI, DC Sports Race Header, Apex'i N1 universal Exhaust with stock pipe and Hondata Reflash...and so far am pushing 198.6 HP at the wheels and 147.8 lbs of torque...Apex'i N1 universal muffler dont make much of a noise untill you get it to about 4500 rpm or higher...but with a race header it will difinitely make a difference as far as sound is concern, because it basically eliminate your Catalytic Converter...again like most people would do, go for the Race header and follow it up with Hondata Reflash and you should make a pretty decent number of HP.

After looking around, there isn't really any headers that are "legal" & guarantee a no CEL. So I prob wont do that till my warantee is up.

As for exhaust, I actually found one I think sounds the best out of all. Magnaflow sounds pretty damn beefy, not all firecracker sounding. I know I said earlier I wanted to stay away from loud, but I wouldn't mind hearing the Magnaflow everyday.

Gear Gods,

Ok, i've tried searching already and haven't found the exact answer(s) i was looking for so excuse the noobish ?'s. I'm looking for an exhaust that

- decent price (under $500???)
- sounds aggressive, but not audible from a mile away.
- gives me a good boost in power to go along with my brand new Injen CAI

Are there any particular brands that would meet most, if not all, of this criteria? Do exhausts eat gas (i realize that it depends on HOW you drive with all other performance mods)

I like the titanium tipped ones that look like a blue flame on the end and found one on Ebay for $340 new, shipped, insured and everything. Its made by "pro 1" but i know that Injen makes roughly the same thing. Your thoughts please.

i dont really trust ebay for performance parts, but it's up to you!! but anyhow if you want an exhaust that will meet most of the criterias you have listed...Tanabe Medallion touring Exhaust is proly the best one you can get for under $500, sound's really good, not too deep and alot quieter than any other exhaust...and as far as HP gain, am pretty sure you'll gain several horses

Thanks coupe. Can anyone back this up? Any rebuttals??

how big should i go in terms of diameter inches and/or mm's. Remember that i have an Injen CAI and don't plan on doing anything like putting a turbo on. This will most likely be as heavy as i go as for as serious (in my eyes) performance mods go. Thanks!!!
