Default sleeper help.

hey all,

long time lurker, i dont post to often, but i have a question that i cant find an answer for in the search.

im building a 99 EX coupe D16 turbo, and looking for a sleeper look. im painting the FMIC black to look like a rad/condenser, and ive got all my other problems more of less figured out.

my main problem is the exhaust. im only shooting for a power goal of around 250-260whp and some quick spool. i figure that 2.5in should so it, but hell i might do 3in. i dont want a fart can out back, id honestly like the look of a typeR or OEM GSR muffler.

so if i ran 2.5/3in piping into a OEM honda muffler of some sort, how would it flow/sound? thanks? and if someones done this, please post up some pics too.

thanks!

It'll provide a TON of backpressure if that's what you're after. Run a 2.5" magnaflow muffler painted black, they're not terribly loud.

i plan on counter acting that by painting the piping black as well, so "hide" is as much as possible.

i saw a hatch the other day, that had larger piping stuffed into an OEM muffler and it sounded decent. god knows what he had but i liked the idea, and if you werent a honda guys youd notice at all.

i made 282WHP on a 13G@20psi turbo through a full 2 1/4 AEM exhaust (very quiet). this was on a piston/rod D16.

i dont see a larger turbo having a problem doing similar at half the boost.

magnaflow muffler or kakimoto. they sounds burbly and looks stock. also use raw tip (no fancy tip at all, just plain rolled one).

i was thinkin that turbo-backs were gonna be expensive, as im used to s2k prices for aftermarket stuff. but exhaust seem to be reasonable. ill look for the ones mentioned. thanks for the help.

one last q. is 3in going to be too big for my setup? im not certian on what turbo im using yet.

what you can do is run the exhaust tubing back into a mocked up and gutted stock muffler, pop a whole right next the the stock inlet on the muffler, pop a hole on the bottom of the muffler, route exhaust tubing with holes drilled into it from hole to hole, repack the muffler, reweld the opening, and you have yourself a sleeper muffler for a few bucks.

If you don't look underneath the muffler, you will probably never know it was customized.

I'm running 3" from the turbo the whole way back. I have a hi-flow cat. and I'm using a 3" Flowmaster. The car is only a little bit louder than stock. The open downpipe is a dead give away though.
