B16A Tranny to B18C5 Motor?
Will this work? I'm not too familiar with the compatibility of the B motors to B trannies, and my friend is rebuilding a Type R longblock. However, he is considering getting an SI transmission (apparently the gear ratios are very similar to the ITR's). Any advice on what tranny would be best for the ITR (aside from an ITR)? Thanks guys, and sorry if I sound a little ill-informed.

Myes.
Myes.
For future refereces a B is a B. You can swap and mix and match parts as long as it is a B. You will have no problem. Take parts from an ls, si or gsr.

The gear ratios are identical.

Be VERY careful when saying that.
B16 tranny internals are not compatible with the ITR tranny and probably other B18 tranny's.
Brad, do you know if the LSD will work in a B16 tranny? I don't think that the final drive will, but I am not sure about the LSD.

so I can put an '01 ITR b-series tranny in my '89 B20a5 equipped Prelude Si?</TD></TR></TABLE>
I don't think so. At the very least, I THINK your car has a cable-actuated clutch, whereas the ITR trans has a hydraulic clutch.

This is true, when talking about internal parts. You need very specific matching gears to FDs to input shafts, etc. Any B-series CASE will work with any B-series gearset. Also, any completely assembled B-series trans will bolt up to a B-series motor and will work fine, assuming the above-mentioned clutch issue.

oh, I know for a FACT that you can't do it. The b series in the Prelude has completely different bolt patterns than any other B series stuff.
I just threw that out to be a dick, cause someone said that ANY B series will bolt up to ANY B series. You have to be careful what is typed on the 'net. Young impressionable minds and all.
(speaking of which, that's what made my first b16 swap back in '98 take so long. People on the net with wrong information. Something like this: "Use the '99 Si rear tranny mount in your EG. That is the one you need." ---- and of course, NOW we all know the real truth.)
Oh yeah, the JDM GSR (SiR-G) LSD won't bolt into the b16 tranny. Some ITR ones will, and of course there is a rare B16 tranny LSD. Whoever said that the ring gear is wrong, was right on the money. (there's actually a little snippet about this in the latest Honda Tuning in the "150hp per liter" article.)

That's what I thought, but having never dealt with the B20A5 personally, I didn't want to hand out false info
And thanks for making sure everything is correct, you're right in that we do need more of that here on HT.

I agree that we need more "policing" of bad info on H-T, I think that the ITR forum is probably the most "authentic" forum on the board. The guys in here seem to know their stuff VERY well.
Honestly, I think that is why so many noobs come in here to get info, they feel like we are the most mature, and informed, on the board.
