D-Tranny test
Ok, I have 8 D series trannys sitting around taking up space in my work area. I hate to throw them all out, since I am sure there are a few good ones. How can I tell if they are good?(without taking them all apart)
the first idea i had is to grab an old axle, put 2 axle nuts on the end so they jam each other, and then use a impact gun to rotate the axle into the trans.. then shift a couple times to see if the input shaft starts moving and go from there..
might be a 2 or 3 person job though..

yeah, I think I remember getting an SI and ZC to do the hybrid tranny conversion. I don't know what is what anymore. I'll have to look. I'd really like to get rid of all of them. I planned on doing a D16y8 w/ZC pistons, and the ZC/SI tranny, but I've never gotten around to it. I ended up selling off all the D engine parts, and now I've got a bunch of trannys laying around.
Easy way is to spin the input shaft and listen for any bearing noise (clicking, grinding). And what's stopping you from opening the transmissions? They're sooooooooo freakin easy to crack once you have them out of the car.
