Default Thunderhill 6/22

A very good track day. I got to test out my new JDM 4-1 headers at Thunderhill today. I was in Group C and this group was HAULING, i mean HAULING. They were quite fast today. I have been in other group C's where... they're all straights and no turns. Saw an MP3 on the track today, and the driver was AWESOME. He was kicking people's butts left and right. Anyhow, the new header pulls quite nice and i can feel that the car is faster. After this track event though, I want some coil overs after driving an E36 M3 around the track with a race suspension, dinan chip, exhaust, and intake. The car is SUPER flat and mad torquey. Some noteable cars that i saw were.. 911 TT, 2 nice E30's, E46 M3, ITR with a zeal suspension, supercharged PY ITR, and yeah can't think of any more. Oh yeah, and a brand new.. totalled m3. 7500 old... crashed it on friday or something, it was undriveable and was just sitting at the track.

Question: My brakes were shuttering under "hard" braking. SCCA sets up a shicane before turn one and before turn eight to slow people down, so before turn one, you are carrying at least 100-105 mph. You have to jump on the breaks to make it through the shicane and all of a sudden my brakes start shuttering and my steering wheel shakes. Hmm.. ABS or warped rotors? I drive some more, taking it easy and testing the brakes.. the shutter is still there but eventually goes away. Over heated brake pads? I am not sure..

Sounds good.
DB8GSR posted a video in the Integra forum, I think he ran on the 22nd also, not sure about what group.

if studdering is just that and no brake fading or if you don't feel a brake loss it sounds like it is your ABS kicking in, you should practice threshold braking. I've done it on SOlO2 when I overdue it, on usually sharp turns and then figure out I am going too fast

Yeah thunderhill rocks, I was there friday when the m3 crashed. He spun out coming out of turn 15. Driver is fine though.

That's odd your brakes were shuddering. Mine weren't at all, and I have pretty much stock brakes except for some r4s pads. My abs was disabled though. My brother's prelude wasn't shuddering at all either.

You may have been just driving harder than us, but if your brakes weren't warped before the event I don't see why they would be during unless you pulled the parking brake in the pits or didn't have a cool down lap.

I had some shaking vibration about a week before I went to thunderhill. Replaced the rotors and pads and I was fine throughout the day. Overtightening the lug nuts can easily warp your rotors as well.

There was this time at the track on turn 14 where my brakes felt like it wasn't grabbing and I was going too fast. I pitted after that lap, cooled it down for few minutes and went back out. All in all.. it was a fun track.

Oh, how I would have loved to be there. D*** work. I was at the HPDE earlier this year at Laguna and was having a lot of brake shudder once the brakes heated up. My rotors were pretty tired to begin with and the heat just warped them. Replaced the rotors and haven't had any more problems. I was also getting some serious fade from the stock pads and replaced them. Another theory was fluid, but it didn't boil. I decided to change to ATE Super Blue, but haven't done any events since I changed. I'm adicted to track events and hope to make another event or two later this year if my schedule permits.

Cool, I didn't know you were on this board. I was the red hatch with the B18c5. It was cool meeting everyone.

I was there on the 22nd for the street school, but was in B class. I rode along with the driver of the MP3 for the morning orientation laps... that car is sweet. He was saying that Mazda is planning on coming out with a more suped up version of the car... he said the MP3 handles great but doesn't have the power to match.

Very very fun day though. I had a great time. Got advanced to C early too... would have run the final session more, but my brakes were dead too. I have NO rear pads left (I'm not kidding). New Porterfield R4Ss are in the mail.
