No he isn't. I'd like to remain positive too, but tell it like it is.

All H/A engines (as far as I know, but definitely including the Y7) are interference engines. So you probably roasted a valve depending on a combination how high your RPM were when the timing belt snapped, how fast you killed the engine (or did it die by itself), and how much you tried to start it back up once it was off.
In your case it broke while you were starting it so I gotta ask, how much longer after you started it did you pump it? Probably enough to bend a few valves, unfortunately.
On the flipside, you can probably pick up an entire Y7 head for like 100 bucks.

True, i didnt take into account the fact that anyone probably would have tried to start it back up once it died which would have done some damage.
The reason i said he probably was (should have said "might be") is i've seen a belt snap while trying to start and it was ok, also a timing belt on an LS skip about 10 teeth on start up and be fine.

Are you sure the belt broke? I've seen a numerous 96-00 civics come through work that had cold start flood problems. Do a wet compression test and see what hapens, if comp. comes up install new plugs and hold gas pedal down to clear flood mode..should start..

well i definetly tried to start it after it died which was immediately. when i tried to re-start it the starter and motor sounded like it was spinning really fast and very easily instead of the usuall sound. if the belt broke and i didnt bend a valve but kept tring to start it the valves wouldnt move right, but if one of them was down it would just beat the **** out of it.
well if anyone has a head for sale looks like im probably looking for one now...

It may sound like the motor is turning over fast because it may have washed the rings with fuel.. This why you need to do a wet compression test!
