Default 2007 XR650L Modifications? should I or not.

I recently purchased a 2007 XR650L. Can anyone tell me if putting a Dyno stage 1 jet kit on and pulling the snorkle out and adding an after maket air filter without a new muffler is worth it and if it is California legal. please take note that I am a noob and want to do this myself. How much time and money would be involved and what are the bennifits if any. Thanks in advance for your help.

California legal? Nope.

Why would you want to modify it now? Just RIDE.

The XR650L is supposed to be the street legal dual sport for Honda. If yours isn't already street legal than you're out of luck. California pretty much doesn't let you convert anymore. Buy a grandfathered in XR650R.

you should be able to find a CA legal exhaust, just has to have a spark arrestor. It is not all that difficult to install an exhaust, however sometimes figuring out the correct jet is kind of a pain in the ***. some companies will sell you the jet with the exhaust so you know what one to get i suggest doing that. installing the jet is pretty simple if you know anything about carburetors.

As far as the difference you will feel, it won't be huge but you should feel something. It will mostly be a LOT louder.

I have never personally done anything with an XR650, but i had a honda trx400ex at one point, which i believe is pretty similar. When I put an exhaust on that i found that it started hitting the rev limiter, so i had to but a rev box, that bumped up 1000rpm. It was pretty cheap i think only $100. You may or may not have to do this, just something to look into.

Oh yeah expect your gas consumption to increase a little as well.

Thanks. I will probably keep it the way it is for a while. Bought it for commuting and I don't like the sound of "consuming more fuel" when stock tank is only about 2 gal.

I noticed there is no tool kit on my 2007 model XR650L and have seen others complain about the same problem. Does any mechanic type guru know what tools whould be best to throw in the tool bag or know what Honda used to supply. All recomendations welcome.

you can just about disassemble any Honda with a 8mm, 10mm,12mm, 14mm, 17mm, and 19mm wrench. maybe some screw drivers as well.

Thanks so much for your time and response. I will be heading out to the local tool shop to pick those as well as a few other tools up.
