Default metalforming

any of you guys into sheet metal forming.
im almost done with a book that kinda gives basic knowledge, and wondering if anyone else does it for a hobby or for a profession here.
ive always been interested in it, and want to get into it soon for fun.

can you give any tips on tools or general advice?

I'm learning it at my job. It's all about stretching and shrinking...from what I can tell anyway haha.

ball peen hammer and a sandbag? I've used that and cnc pressbrakes rollforms,punches etc...Nothing really in between though.

what shapes are you trying to make?

there is some good info on metalmeet for sure. A fellow I work with has taken several seminars from some guy on there...so i just ask him if i cant make the metal behave. One thing I picked up is how important it is to 'tune up' your hammers and dollys. no sharp edges and make sure the surfaces are true. since they rarely are on new tools...even the expensive ones.

What are you trying to do or accomplish? Bend, form, roll, stretch or shrink?

Try this site for DVD's. Pretty good source on how to!

I do it as a profession, You want to get some wood, plastic and rawhide malets( if you are working on aluminum) shot bag,english wheel, planishung hammer and theres more but thats off the top of my head. So you know I'm not blwing smoke up your *** the site to were I work is thecreativeworkshop.com, we do one of a kind restoration and coach building the red car(tr-60 special) is the last coach car we did completely from pictures.
