I have a 4th gen Prelude that I have been running 205/50/16 on 16 x7 rims. Car has been lowered with some Tanabe springs therefore it's not very low. I've had no problems with this size on my car.
Recently my brother gave me a set of rims that I've loved for years but was never able to find in 4 lug until now. It's an ancient set of Volk Racing GR-C but the sizes are a staggered 16 x7 +38 and 16 x8 +38.
I really want to use them on the Prelude which I use primarily as a daily driver therefore performance isn't really a big issue for me since there's lots of traffic around where I live anyways.

So I am planning to use 205/50/16 for the 16 x7 as fronts.
But for the 16 x 8 rears , I don't really know what to use. I would like to use 205/50/16 for them too since I have an extra set of those but I know the width is maybe too wide for the tires.

I am leaning towards 215/50/16 due to availability and price although ideally if it's ok, I'd like to use up my extra set of 205/50/16.

I don't plan to use 16 x8 as fronts since the appearance may be strange and I think they will stick out of the fender.

Any other tire sizes and comments on this staggered setup? Thanks.

 

Most 205/50-16 tires are only approved for mounting on rims 5.5-7.5 inches wide. So I wouldn't mount them on 16x8 rims.

If I use 225/45/16 which will fit on a 8j , the side appearance of these are almost the same as 205/50/16 correct?
Tirerack has the Sumitomo HTR Z on sale. How are these tires? The tread wear rating of 160AA worries me a bit. Will it have a short tread wear life?
