New ED6 owner
Just worked out the deal with a friend as it died about 3 blocks away from my place. Pushed it home and parked it for the night. Looking to get it running again, store it for the winter, then turn it into a streetable track/autox car. Has the typical rear fender rust and the passenger side rocker is shot, but at least the structure underneath is ok. Looking to develop my welding and bodywork skills on this one.
I've had a bit of experience previously, owning a DA9 Integra for about 9 months, but sold it when I bought my Jetta Turbo Diesel. Time to explore the handling upgrades I never got around to on the DA.
On the short list:
- strip interior
- fix body / repaint
- wheel/tire upgrade
- springs/dampers/bushings
- custom exhaust (once the fuel cell is installed)
Looking forward to sharing the trials, tribulations and elations of my project while learning and commiserating with the rest of you guys (and gals if there are any).
Cheers!

I guess that it is... I'll have some progress in the the next week, but it'll get really cold soon, so it may slow down until I get going again in April. Mind you, the Jetta would have a bigger build thread... upgraded front brakes, fully rebuilt suspension w/ Neuspeed & Bilstein Sport goodies, cat-back straight pipe, OMP rally wheels. It's my urban rally car that gets 40mpg city.
Pics coming this evening.

Just a few pics to have as a start reference point... took these at 0°C/32°F this morning, I look to have maybe a weekend's worth of progress before I store it. 4 cars, 2 car driveway... cheapest cars lose out. Special Edition signage = local market BS.

Update!
- changed oil pan gasket
- free'd up driver seat sliders
- removed front speakers (scored a pair of Pioneer TS-D161R, to be installed in my Jetta)
- no start issue NOT resolved
I can hear the fuel pump start and stop once ON. Rules out main realy? As soon as I turn the key to start I hear relays click rapid-fire, starter does not turn. I originally thought that it was the ghetto alarm system, so I yanked it out and rewired the ignition switch; same symptoms. After a few tries all it does is click. I'll attempt a push start later this week.

Ah, another CDM hatch
. Good luck with the project, and good luck with the rust repair
I was there once and it wasn't fun at all.
On a side note, does your special edition have the power windows and optional audio console?

I'm actually going to enjoy the rust repair... I really want to develop my welding skills.
In Quebec, Special Edition means nothing... just useless options - I think it's just the manual tilt sunroof with manual windows and locks. The car is actually a mix of 2 different DX hatches. This one had a blown engine, while the donor (D15B7) was rear-ended. The wiring is a mess, power steering pump has been removed (lines are still there), but that will be taken care of when I strip the car this spring.
Still need it to start before the winter.

Jury is still out on that... considering a MPFI swap as one of my other friends has started dismantling old integras and civics and could pick up the parts cheap. ZC swap is tempting, but so is D15B VTEC... we'll see.
To reply to the next 2 posts as I am still a trial member:
Basically it's DX with some EG (DX-block) cross-breeding. While going through the FAQ I decided on a D15B VTEC swap as I can get it cheap. I have to pull the engine to repaint the engine bay anyways.

I was looking for some MPFI parts, but I decided to wait until I get everything ready for my D15B swap. I realized that saving money was the best choice, I didn't need need MPFI anyway till the swap. $120 MPFI=
$500 D15B2 w/ MPFI=

It lives again! Got it started with a quick boost from my diesel. It's throwing a few codes (CEL on) from low-RPM issues in the intake (a few vacuum lines aren't hooked up).
Took it for a drive only to find that the oil leak hasn't been fully solved. I had to rig a drain plug using a larger VW wheel bolt as his loss of oil was due to the plug backing out, dumping the oil. Thankfully he shut it off fast enough to not seize the engine. At higher revs it runs like a champ. Picking up a drain plug and o-ring on my way to work today. Mom won't be happy about the oil slick though. It rained last night... HUGE trail of oil running down the driveway to the street. Did a quick degrease job, so it shouldn't be too bad.
Time to look for a permanent parking spot for the winter.
BTW, how the hell do you get out of trial status?!?!?!?
I hate crap interior painting:
