you will need to unbolt the bottom half of exhaust, or you can go to:

you will need to join to see the full link.

Not a very hard task to do. The bolts blocked by the trans you are talking about could possibly be underneath the clutch inspection plate. Just a couple of bolts remove that, and you can easily get to them. Other than that (after removing the downpipe of the exhaust to get to them) its pretty straight forward

Never heard of anyone pulling out the whole engine just to take off the oil pan?? lol

drain all the oil out first! then support the car on jack stands.. then you gotta take off your exhaust manifold all the way to the cat converter. then there are hundreds of ten mm bolts holding the pan . i think like four closest to the tranny are difficult good luck!

Also make you do not over torque the nuts when putting the oil pan back on. They do not require a lot of torque and can be a big PITA if broken.

i did this last night to my sedan. here is what i did

jacked and supported the car with jack stands.
removed and pulled out the radiator
removed the whole exhaust manifold.
remove a few brackets and the bottom fly wheel cover it's like two bolts that are on the inner pan. then undid all the pan bolts dropping it stright down. cleaned both the block and pan surfaces. then installed the new gasket. i don't use rtv or any sealant. because it's really not needed. makes it a paint when you change it out again. remember to bolt it back up in a cross pattern. from mid then out side etc.... torque is hand tight with a 1/4 rachet.

if you can remove the lower half of the stock exhaust manifold then do that. if not it's easier to remove the exhaust manifold with the radiator out.

haha remove the rad thats hillarious!!! thats the stupidest thing ive ever read.

haha yeah lets go and drain out coolant as well! no...

just undo the exhaust undo the bell housing cover, pop out of left axle from the trans (i had to anyways....) drop the bell housing cover, remove the rest of the 10mm's...

(i was able to get the lower bell housing cover OFF with the axle in, but not able to get it back in... )
to pop out the axle from the trans use a pry bar or screw driver, to get it back in use a rubber hammer and gently tap till it goes in (dont tare your boot!)

and to the guy that said he doesnt use RTV on the corners of the new gasket... have fun replacing your oil pan gasket (again) in a few months

oh and this job becomes more fun when you have a 1 piece exhaust like me.. hah
