Having some problems with the locks
97 Accord LX V6
Well, the problem started when it started to get a little cold here. The first thing is, I think the tumbler on the driver door might be going bad because when I stick the key in to turn it, either to lock or unlock, it sticks sometimes and is hard to turn. Another thing happened this morning when I was getting out of my car. I opened the door, kept the inside handle pulled and pushed down on the lock button. My doors locked. Fine, that's normal. Then I remembered I had to get something out of the back so I unlocked my doors. They unlocked, than immediately, they locked again on their own. I shut the door and went to the passenger side, stuck the key in, turned it to unlock the doors and it did the same thing. I tried doing this with the driver door open and closed, and did the same thing.
Problems with the actual locking mechanism or because it's cold outside? Now when I say cold, I mean it maybe got down to the high 30s last night and this morning.

While I was thinking about it some more, I remember last winter, I would lock my doors when I got inside and then they would continue to keep trying to lock on their own. Only happened when it was cold out though.
agreed, you are having driver door lock actuator problem.
i have replaced mine. it is not easy installing the new one.
by the way, wife has used her key much over 13 years and it was very worn. her key was difficult to use-catching upon turning-that i had to have a new one cut.
also this car is only locked and unlocked from outside if no one in car to prevent locking key inside car. nice idea.

On my '96 Accord 4-door, I can actually lock the driver's door without the key as follows - With driver's door open,
1 - simultaneously pull out on the driver's door inner handle lever and push down the plastic door lock ****;
OR
2 - simultaneously pull up on the driver's door outer handle and push down the plastic door lock ****.
The above two procedures will automatically lock all four doors, even if they're open. If you inadvertently leave the keys in the car, and do one of the two items mentioned above, you could conceivably lock your keys in the car. I've gotten into the habit of using my key to lock the driver's door to ensure that what I've explained above doesn't happen.
