Aftermarket rods that are both stronger and lighter than OEM rods are available, though costly. Carrillo makes a great set.

Not that I have any concrete evidence to back my claims up, but I wouldn't go anywhere above 300whp with stock rods, thats about the highest output I've ever seen them last at.

Although not as light an excellent option is to use arp rod bolts assuming your going to use stock pistons

Asking a question like this with the name Dr Honda just seems silly......I say drop the DR. you didn't earn it.
What are you trying to build? Using stock rods would just be stupid. If youre set on SAVING the MONEY you can have a set shotpeened.

i think this is a great option. AllMotorRandy is spinning his stock shot peened h23 rods to 9000 and hasnt had any problems with them. He is also making like 250whp.
Now if you really believe in the r/s ratio mumbo jumbo then it would be considered crazy to spin an 1.49 r/s to 9k, especially on stock rods.

i think the stock rods can take alot more abuse than people think.

I agree Blake, though I think the arp hardware is definitely a big player in that.

Halo, piston selection has nothing to do with rod bolts btw. Just to clear it up

Well, 1st I'd say congrats because I think you'd be the 1st. 252whp is the most I have seen. And after that 252whp run it would make 200whp! Damn heat soak!

Well, you know me! 8500rpms on the stock NON-Shotpeened rods and its not just Drag Racing its heavy hitting RR sessions! Making 200-270whp!
The rods IMO are in the similar boat as the pistons. Due to inconsistencies with cast components----sometimes they will last a week with ~250whp+ and other times they will make 100 1/4 runs and 200 dyno runs@400whp!
FAST CHEAP RELIABLE pick 2!
Eagles are pretty cheap why not just go that route if youre looking to save money.

I have a hard time believing that Honda would spend the $$ on forging H22 cranks and not forge the rods.

Are the stock Rods Forged or cast? I ws under the impression that they were cast.
why would Honda NOT use forged pistons then?....
In my Civic, the rod snapped like a twig from a little over-rev...

I don't know, I was hoping maybe you did.

Forging pistons seems to me like it would be a good bit more expensive than something much simpler like rods. Never know though...

My understanding is ONLY the crank is forged and thats why people are making 600whp+ on them. Papadakis was running high 8's@800whp on a stock Honda crank. The list of OTHER OEM parts was amazing as well!
I think the reason that we don't see more broken H22 rods is other stock parts give out first whether it be a bolt or ring land.
Going to have to dig up the set I have somewhere.....I'm sure I will be able to tell at 1st glance whether or not they are forged/cast.
