VTEC wont engage after tranny swap
I finally did it, after a year I swapped my auto transmission to 5spd
Finally getting the hang of it, but one problem
vtec wont engage! the oil level is good and I was driving for a good half hour and it still wouldn't do it! I dont know whats going on, I still have the auto computer so could it be that? what is the manual computer called?

the check engine light is on but he said its just cause of the swap.
I can make sure everything is plugged in correctly, what would be disconnected that would stop it from working?

i'm thinking (and hoping) that was just a joke.
check and see which code(s) you are throwing. If the CEL is on, there could be one code or 5, you never know. make sure it's just the one for the tranny.

called the shop today, he said its because its not the 5spd ecu. whats the 5spd ecu called so i can get it myself and install it, cause he is quoting me around $250 for computer with labor.
it man, it definitely isnt the ECU. Mine is a swapped 5-speed from auto. if you want the CEL to go away, get a new ECU, but i doubt it will fix your lack of vtec.
i have the stock auto ECU, but i still get my vtec at 5.5k.

ill ask someone

when you swap your auto out, did they reflash a new manual ecu for your car? if not you will throw engine check due to the auto ecu and the tcm. By throwing the cel it would put you in limp mode causing your vtec not to engage. You would either have to get your auto ecu rechipped or get a manual ecu that you can reflash. That would be one cause of vtec not working. Second would be you vss, (speed sensor located on top of your tranny) depending on the type of tranny that was put in you will have to make sure that it is a h22a vss if not there will be no vtec at all. I had a h23 swap into my car, but i needed a h22 vss due to the motor/ecu, because of that i had no vtec at all. Good luck hopefully you this would help you.
PS i do have a auto rechipped manual ecu for sale as well as a vss
edit this issue is for 4th or 5th gen?

heres the codes i got
Transmission Control system malfunction
Manufacturer controlled transmission
shift solenoid a
shift solenoid c
any of these affect vtec engaging? or is there a wire unplugged somewhere that i can plug back in?
this is for a 5th gen
the speedo does work, it appears to be accurate

those all look like tranny codes.....i doubt those would have anything to do with vtec not engaging UNLESS any of those codes would cause the ECU to go into limp mode.
Not all CEL's would cause your car to go into limp mode. Don't know why dude man was saying you have to re-flash your ECU to go from auto->manual. Afaik you just have to open up your ecu and re-solder one of the connection points on the ECU.
I would be fairly certain your tranny/ecu combo is screwing with your ECU and not letting VTEC engage. Do this mod, and I think you would be fine.

the car wouldn't even start if that was loose....it grounds the ecu too.

i was only stating that he would need a reflash if he swaps to a manual ecu; other than that i have stated that he can rechip his auto to work for the 5spd. And yes i have done a tranny swap on my lude, and the ecu check codes did indeed put me in limp mode causing my vtec to not engage, but it could be for difference reason, still in the open pretty much. But thats one thing he can get rid of first is fixing the CELs.
Since your lude is freshly swapped, there is a tcm computer right next to the ecu, you can just unplug that and reset the ecu to clear the tcm cel. The rest of the code is due to the ecu. Theres a chip in the auto ecu that you will need to desolder and resolder, or your next bet is to get a manual ecu and have honda reflash it. All those code is due to the auto tranny being missing now and your ecu is trying to find it. I had the same code for my swap for a 5th gen.

ok so here are the things im going to try:
1. unplug the thing next to the computer and plug back in
if that doesnt work
2. re solder the place in the link above
if that doesnt work
3. but a new ecu

no you will need to unplug the thing next to the ecu and remove it completely, it is no use anymore. its only for the auto tranny. And you will need to resolder the resistor chip. You will need to do both to remove all the CELs listed. Buying a manual ecu isnt necessary unless you mess up soldering the ecu.

Did you have to re-solder too?
