I had my waterpump and timing belt replaced by a reputable mechanic using aftermarket parts from autozone in february. After a few months, it would drip one drop every few seconds out of the weep hole at the very bottom of the water pump. This happened on and off for a month or so, and I topped off the overflow tank a few times. For the past few months there has been no leak, and no sound. The car has also never overheated as far as i know. would you replace?

Likely the seal/gasket that has since sealed itself with sediment

or the bearing?

or something else?

problems don't fix themselves... if it was leaking out the weep hole, you should replace.

I don't have the service manual in front of me but I think it mentioned that it was normal to see some leaking from the weephole.

only if its about to die.

 

I just looked it up and it does say small amounts of "weeping" from the bleed hole is normal.

I've had mine weep before but it is usually large enough to cause puddling.

budomove, I would keep and eye on it and if the weeping is excessive then I would replace it.

 

How long has it been since you had it done. At every shop I've worked at they have a 12/12 warranty. 12 months or 12,000 miles. Give them a call and tell them it's leaking like a sive.

 

My mechanic does warranty his work for a year, but I stupidly supplied the parts from autozone to save a buck, and he won't warranty it, since it is probably a defective water pump or gasket he said. I probably saved a bout 15 bucks by buying the autozone wp, lesson learned.

 

Well that's what he would have done anyway, maybe Napa but still not factory OEM parts.

 

I replaced the alternator on my girls car a while ago and it caused a leak. I found out that the alternator tensioner bracket bolt wasn't torqued properly. I tightened it and it was fixed.

 

WHAT?!?

 

Trust me I know what I am talking about.

The alternator tensioner bracket bolt was loose where it bolts up to the block/ It also holds on the water pump. I tightened it and it was fixed. It is a 14mmm bolt.

 

Like I said I know what I am talking about.

 

get OEM dude, that will definitely fix your leak.

 

I am waiting on Majestic Honda to send me some OEM parts including water pump, timing belt, tensioner, and tensioner spring. Hopefully there will be a decently mild weekend coming up when I can do this, before the winter.
