gasoline!
I know this is probably a stupid question, but I drive a 95 prelude SI and i was
just curious if I absolutely have to put 91 octane in it. I don't know about you all
but gas prices are up to around $3 a gallon and its putting a pretty big dent in my
wallet. If I have to splurge at the fuel pump I will, just wondering if its going to hurt
my lude.

i just got a 2001 honda prelude and i recently asked the same question. i forgot who it was but they said i definately need to add in 91 octane into the car.
so far it cost me 48 bucks to fill up the tank. my v6 camry took exact;y 48 bucks also. so to me there is really no difference.
on my 1994 v6XLE camry i got about 350 to a 16gallon tank.
on the 2001 honda accord i get roughlt

Is your car worth the extra couple of bucks per tank to keep it healthy?
I used to think the same thing back in my cheap-*** high school days, but the difference only amounts to 2-3 dollars anyway. It's worth it.

You should run 91
Honda has you run 91 to prevent knocking. When you run a lower octane the fuel burns easer, causing you car to pre-detonate. You ecu will make changes to help with this but you are more than likely going to loose some power and fuel mileage.
Test it, fill you tank with 91 and run your vehicle to empty. Then fill the tank with a lower octane and the the amount of gallons you just fill up with would be used to calculate the fuel milage for the 91 octane. When you run the vehicle to empty again, simple fill the tank and use that reading to calculate the fuel economy for the lower octane

If you cant afford the gas, you cant afford the car.
Better get used to it, because crude oil is over $92 a barrel now, the only reason gas isint over $4.50 a gallon is because its getting into winter time and less people are driving places.

Dude, get a bicycle if you are that poor... the difference in price between 89 and 93 per tank, is like a BUCK... ONE DOLLAR dude.. ONE DOLLAR. treat your honda right, feed her the good stuff.
depending on where you live it might be a dollar, but here its around a 10 dollar difference....10 dollars not 1 if it was 1 i wouldnt be asking about it. I would suck it up and pay the extra dollar, and its not the fact that Im poor its whether or not I HAVE to use it, but thanks for all the positive feedback guys.

Simple math here... "You Drive...You Buy". Don't even bother roaming around for the cheapest gas in town. You're paying for a quality buy and ride. If you low-balling, you're risking to pay the price, not at the pumps, but for future major repairs.

You dont HAVE to use 91 in it.... you can fill it up for free with urine, but it's not recommended.
First off it wouldnt be that horrible to put 89 in your tank if this was years ago. But today the quality of gas has significantly decreased. I put nothing less than 93 octane in my 1996 Civic with h22. Some gasoline places add more detergents and other things bringing the quality higher than most other. I know places like WaWa only meet the minimum requirements while Shell and Texaco add more detergents etc. making a better quality gas. If your pockets arent deep enough just get some octane booster d00d
