Default dust boots...important?

i replaced my stock struts with some kyb agx struts...the stock dust boot doesnt fit properly over the strut causing a terrible ride. I took the dust boots off and the ride has improved alot. Is it neccsary to have a dust boot? If i do need one, what model of honda can i steal them from? or can i make one from something?

Are you sure you installed them right? I thought the AGX shocks had the same size shock body as stock? My stock dust covers work just fine on my Koni shocks, only I had to ream out the hole on top with a drill bit to fit over the Koni shaft.

I believe they are important because any dirt and gunk that gets on the shock shaft and wear out and eventually blow out the seals on top of the shock body.

no i didnt install them wrong. i was getting a terrible ride with them on. i also could see where the paint was missing at the top of the base of the strut. Also when i pushed just the strut down with the dust boot on the boot got stuck to the strut, causing my terrible ride and terrible noises when hitting bumps.

Maybe my springs are weak causing the strut to move too much? 305k on them.

What kind of dust boot can i get to protect them since mine don't fit? DX and SI crx dust boots bigger?
