Do you have a check engine light? I had the same problem... my cat was gone, and had check engine light and had to get a new one. The catalyst inside was falling apart. But it should not happen if its brand new unless its a cheap cat.

Well I hate to say it but i think your catalytic converter might be gone. Rattling is not normal and rattling usually means the catalyst inside has broken apart. By being a brand new catalytic converter, it just has to be bad luck.

But just to be sure, anybody else have a say?

If you got warranty on that cat, i say try to get a new one or let who ever changed it for you inspect it agian. Usally rattling would be your bushings.

What are you talking about? What bushings? Sounds like you need a new cat, If smog is no time soon I would just take it off shake the stuff out and reinstall it. Then get a replacement when smog comes.-ejoner.

Like i said, if he still has warranty on the cat from where ever he bought it from. He should be able to get a brand new cat. Or Where ever he got it installed from, he should let them look at and see whats the rattling coming from. Most of the time the bushings, the black rubber pieces that hold your exhaust hangers would let the whole exhaust system rub against the chassis and cause a vibrating noise which gives him the rattling noise. Anything else you dont understand from me?

Most likely it's the heatshield on your cat.
Pull it out and see if it stops.

i am going to take my down pipe off this weekend and see if the collect metal o ring is worn or torn or something cause i was suppose to use a metal gasket instead of the o ring type of gasket donut .if it is still good. then i am bring it back to the muffler shop.

It is very rare for cats to go bad that fast. It usually takes a few years to go bad. My moneys on your heat shield as well.
