Default !!!!!!Help With Oil Leak Problem!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was screwing around and raced some hatchback tonight and took it to 8000 in first gear as usual and was already pulling him so i shifted into 3rd at about 7500 when i shifted i heard a pop and my friend behind me saw a flame. NOW, the problem is that after about another two blocks of fine normal driving i hit a red light and my car was smoking crazy. I pulled into a gas station and popped the hood, tons of smoke of the oil variety was burning of the exhaust on the firewall side of the engine. After about 3 minutes of sitting it stopped smoking and there was a puddle of oil on the ground about 1/2 a quart. I started it up and it wasn't smoking anymore, added some oil and make a bonzai for home, stopping half way to add more oil sinse it was smoking like crazy the hole time i was driving.
my car is an 88 hatchback with b18a block with b16a tranny and head.

*****SO, the problem is that my car runs fine but is pouring out oil from somewhere on the back of the block or head but it's guarenteed not the oil line, it was the first thing i checked. I even pulled the intake manifold off just now and i cant see any point of leakage, just oil splattered everywhere.

In a LS headgasket are there small holes just for oil gallies towards the back center of the head. It's the only other thing I can think is that there is a leak in the headgasket not into the cylinder but out of the back of the head/block.

Any input is appreciated truly. I was planning on driving home tommorrow morning from san diego to Reno. Thanks a ton!

What color is the smoke? A bad headgasket won't cause you to burn oil.

Since you have a ls-vtec, maybe the leak comes from the oil line behind the block...

yeah maybe your oil filter came loose cause its right there. I doughbt that much oil could come from the head gasket cause if the gap was that biug your car wont run.........

it's not the vtec oil line and it's not the oil filter, i'm going to check the oilpan and the oilpan gasket, i can't see any oil leaking when i poke around with a mirror on the back of the block and head. but somehow it's dripping onto the exhaust.

it would definitely drip down and smoke on the header, so that is your smoke source. as for the fireball??? how long ago did you build the motor, and did you replace all gaskets during the buildup?

your friend behind you, did he say where the flame came from? a pop and a flame could definitely come out of your exhaust during a backfire. (damn zc running too rich. glad those zc days are behind me.)

See, that's the weird part, i think the backfire was just a coincidence that it happened. I just crawled under the car and wipped everything down and then i noticed like 2 missing nuts and 2 missing studs from the oil pan towards the drivers rear corner. i added the two nuts and one stud, the other was stripped out. The only thing that i can think is that i hit the oil pan leaving the gas station right before i raced and then when i got on it hard it just built up pressure and started shooting all over. I just let it run for like 15 minutes and it didn't smoke at all. I'm going to go drive it a few miles and hope. But i'm already screwed cause i was supposed to start my 9 hour drive home at 10 am.
