Default High RPM problem?

I got a b16a in a 94 CX. Just brought a jdm cluster for the RPM's. Notice that in 5th gear driving normal between 70-80 mph on the highway, my RPM's are at 5000. Is that normal or should it be lower than that like 3000? What RPM's are you guys at around that driving conditon and MPH? Just wondering if I got a compression or leak somewhere? Or a cluster that is off. Any suggestions? Let me know. Thanks!

Are you using the stock B16 transmission?

just answered your own question. the cx has stupid long gears for gas mileage....b16 trans has short gears for acceleration. you'll be at 3k at around 60mph with the b16 trans.

If the tach shows approximately 4300 RPM at 80 mph, then that's perfectly normal.

my tach reads 5000rpm, while driving at 80mph. tach off or something off on my b16?
