#1: I usually downshift when coming to a stop instead of rolling in neutral (unless I'm already going slow). You can put the car in neutral at a stop and foot off the clutch pedal if you are waiting at a light. Sometimes I leave the car in 1st gear with the clutch down.

#2: You don't have to start in first gear, but you can burn your clutch by riding it trying to pull out of 2nd gear. Stick with 1st.

You can start in 5th if you are on jackstands lolol.

Start in first gear with a civic, starting in 2nd will wear your clutch out real fast.

You should double clutch to downshift. This will lengthen the life of your tranny.

As long as you are in Neutral, it does not matter what you do with the clutch. Just going in and out of gears
