hello everyone,
i was just wondering,
did anyone of you crome chipped guys ever tryed to connect your car to a obd scanner?

i tryed to connect my car to the scanner today and it didnt recognized the ecu, it asked me if my vehicle is electric :S (i work at honda, its a OEM scanner )

j12 is cut,

should i solder it back in and give it another shot?

more info on the car? if you're using a obd2 to obd1 jumper harness, the obd2 connector won't read.

 

you need an OBD1 scanner, they're vehicle specific, expensive and not widely available as compared to OBD2 scanners

and if your car was obd 2 and it was converted using a jumper harness, I don't think it will ever work

sup. the scanner i'm using is a OEM pgm-fi scan tool,( i work at honda)
the scanner is a honda ONLY scanner for all the years,

my entire harness is obd1, and i'm using the 3 pin obd1 connector... give me a brake guys i kinda know what i'm doing, it just cant read it,

 

never had the oem scan tool or had one but i knew the paper clip trick worked for me.....accidently cut wire?

This way it works for me too, (there are no cel's/tdc's) i just wanna watch the data list...

 

At our shop we use a Snap-On Solus scanner that comes with all of the OBD1 vehicle specific connectors (works with OBD2 as well)...you can't scan a chipped ECU for whatever reason, it just freezes up the scanner (ours at least). Sad, but true...

 

if you want to just see the data and datalog with your chipped ecu you can do that with a laptop and the freelog program

have you tried just jumping the connector and reading the flashes. if you have a solid light that wont blink, then you have a bad ecu, or a bad chip. i seen it happen many times

As far as I know, the typical OBD1 scanner does not work on a chipped ECU. all though I could be wrong, try it with J12 in place. Logically it's in place from the factory... if it doesn't try it with J1 pulled. it has to start working some time.

IMO the best way to go is to datalog directly from CN2.
