i've got a problem that just started last night with my transmission ... when i push the clutch in whether i'm sitting still or moving it starts making a screaching sound and the motor almost completely stalls out and it smells like the clutch is burning up

 

maybe your clutch is not disengaging.

 

If I were to take a guess, I would say your throwout bearing has been trashed and its grinding your clutch release fork.
