Default Heater problem?!?!?!?

It's starting to get pretty cold and my heater is acting up. It won't heat up when I have the car on idle and when I start driving I have to go full-throttle couple of times to get it warm, then it will cool down again at the traffic light and I have to rev it up to heat up.

I'm guessing it's just the coolant, but I've never seen it leak coolant before so I don't know. Anyone had this problem before?

Thanks

I'm getting the same problem. I have a feeling it deals with the water valve, but I am not sure just yet. I'm looking into it, as the cold weather is upon us.

I'm going to go test the water valve now, and if that isn't it, I think it'll be time for me to do a coolant flush and a new thermostat.

Ok, I've ruled out the water valve. I'm going to do a coolant flush later on this week, and I'll get a nice new thermostat.

Yes sir, that would be the one. It has a blue adjustment cable attached.

No it wasn't, thats probably why. Anyway I'm suspecting the thermostat now, the temperature gauge has been acting a little strangely lately, I went to part sourse to buy one but the one in Partsource doesn't come with the gasket (wtf?!?!) and looks very cheap quality. I'm going to Honda tomorrow to see how much an oem one costs. also got some coolant, going to top it off after I do the thermostat, checked it today and looks a bit on the low side.

I'll let you know how this goes.

Whenever you do a thermostat change, I'd recommend running all new coolant. It's just a smart investment for prolonging the drivetrain. Also, flushing the lines wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Just keep this in the back of your mind. Your symptoms are starting to sound alot like a bad headgasket. This seems to effect alot of civics anymore.

I have a K24A2 in my engine bay. And, I can assure you it's not the head gasket, seeing as I've replaced the coolant and oil within the time frame of the problems arising.

my em2 with a k20a2 swap pretty much does the same thing. doesn't heat up at idle very much at all, but once you get on it a bit it's warm.
