Default metallic grinding from clutch

I have a 2005 civic manual. When I press in the clutch to change gears, I hear a very slight metallic grinding noise. I can only hear it when I have the windows down. Is this just the normal noise of the clutch releasing? Or could this be something different. I haven't noticed the noise until recently. The car only has 29,000 miles on it. Thanks.

our clutch spring has a recall on it i think. it may be that. you might have a cracked clutch plate. do you beet the **** out of the car? You need to me a little more discriptive about the noise. there are so many different things it could be.

No, I am easy on my car. It is hard to describe. It sounds loud from outside the car. As soon as you press on the clutch, it sounds like two pieces or metal grinding or making a screeching noise. Kind of like the squeaking noise your brakes make when they get wore down. I first thought it was the breaks but it's not.

you know what i thought that as well at one point. but when you let off the breaks it starts when you prerss the breaks it stops? if so thats the breaks worn down. if your shure its not your breaks, check the clutch plate. may be cracked. with only 30k i doubt its the clutch. your car is under warenty. are you modded?

The brakes don't have any affect on the noise. It just sounds similar. It definitely happens when you press down the clutch. The only mods I have are wheels. It is still under warranty. I just wanted to make sure this wasn't a normal sound before I took it to a dealer. I didn't know if it was normal for the clutch to make a little noise when shifting.

Might be the throw out bearing. I had a similar experience happen in my '99 Accord 5 years ago. It'd sometimes barely be audible, and other times be quite loud, really without any sort of pattern.

Long story short I ignored it because clutch operation remained fine, and I figured that the bearing may have not been properly greased for a period of time.

If you don't use it you lose it, low mileage, couple year old cars seem susceptible to this.

Just my $0.02
