Default Weight Reduction

What have people done to loose weight in their 6g civic's WITHOUT stripping the entire interior... Also, are there any subwoofers out there that are designed to be very lightweight/perform very nice also. Thanks...

Spare tire, toss in a can of fix a flat. I personally don't do this, but I would say it's a fairly popular one.

I know some of the ITR guys run w/o bumber supports I believe....not good for crash..but it's an idea.
Also, changing the header and exhaust can net you some gains.

Another idea is rims and tires, if you go w/ volks, or other lightweight rims you can potentially save a lot of pounds over stock.

Good Luck

The stock 14" steelies on my CX weigh 17.38 lbs, and the tires weigh 19lbs that i have on there, just 185/65/14's.
~36.4 lbs.

lightweight batteries can reduce the same as a carbon hood but for 1/5 the price. Also by peeling back the carpet you can remove the padding and sound deaner fr4om the floor boards. Dont forget the AC brackets that bolt to the motor.

My first choice however would be lightweight rims as they help in every area IE looks braking handling and acceleration. Rota has some for 500 bucks a set that are less than 10 pounds that just came out.
There is no padding in the carpets for 1992-1995 Civics - just carpet. There's some tar underneath the carpet which can be removed by getting dry ice and letting it sit and then chipping off the tar, but you *might* save 5-10lbs. depending on which car you have. CX/VX hatches come with the least amount of tar. I see he has an EX coupe so I'm not so sure, but I don't think it has padding either, right? The EX coupe does have assloads os tar though, but it prolly doesn't weigh much.

Also, that A/C bracket you are telling us to take out also doubles as a motor mount so you might want to keep that one. If you have a B-Series motor then Honda of Japan offers an aluminum A/C bracket to replace your stock cast-iron piece.

I have done a lot of weight redux on my car, but my methods are not for everyone. If you guys really want to know I'll find a link to all of the weight redux **** I did on my car.

I'd say THE best weight loss would be lightweight wheels. Looks good and saves weight in one of the most important areas - rotating mass.

Totally go for lighter wheels, unsprung weight reduction is also a handling upgrade...

Gutting for weight isnt worth it unless you go all the way...like track only...bye-bye everything.

The only other thing I've seen is bhowell from Pebble motorsports removed his spare and moved the 40lb battery to the back. That didnt really remove wieght, but it did help by moving some of the engine wieght to the back...evening things out.

good luck.

PS: I love driving my car alone, but when my friends get in, its basically like throwing 400 lbs of weight in the car, and suddenly I cant brake and accellerate like Im used to. For all they know, my cars a POS.

please explain.

p.s.

a disadvantage comes to mind: loosing weight at the bottom of the car raises the center of gravity.
i believe its like 1 lbs off your rim weight = 7 lbs off of your car..
so using a rim 1 lb lighter is taking 28lbs off of your car weight... while in motion(id believe)

and then the disadvantage of a raised center of gravity means little when your car is an inch off the ground

Reminds me of that SCC article where they tore up that stunnah's car and netted him a 1.3 second increase in the quarter *already discussed this earlier.
