alternator question...
i have a problem with my car....it wont start....it has a new starter ...full tank of gas i believe that battery is still good the radio still turns on along with the lights..it still turns over..i also did a fuel system cleaning very recently....it have new spark plugs and new spark plug wires...my ac unfortunately does not turn on... im thinking it may be the alternator...any other suggestions on what the problem may be?
well what you do is charge your battery, with a charge box or jumper cables from another car, then try to start it.
If it starts then just let it sit there for about a minute started.
Then take off any battery terminal.
If it stays on, then your battery is bad.
If it shuts off then you have a bad alternator, or you have a loose ground or cable is loose somewhere.
Go ahead and do that, believe me it happend to me like 2 days ago.

If you have a multimeter (they are cheap) and take two readings.
Take a reading with the engine off. It should be at about 12V.
Take a reading with the engine on (all other electrical off). It should be about 14V.
This will also narrow down the problem if it's with the battery or alternator.
Why I would not take off the battery terminal as mentioned above? You could shock the electrical system. Multimeter are cheap ($20 for a good one). And plenty of use around the house too.
