On cold mornings or just when it feels like being jerky, it wont let me take the key out of the ignition. I beleive its the cable between the transmission and the ignition telling it its in park. If I play with the gears, it will let me take it out sometimes, and somtimes it takes me 10 minutes to get it out. Where can I locate this cable, or any other opinions? The key and tumbler are fairly recent.

did you have the ignition replaced? and it started doing it after?

 

I bought the car in April, the previous owner had the car stolen, they screwed up the passenger lock cylinder and the ignition. When it was recovered, the ignition was replaced with a new unit, and now it constantly acts up. It had this problem long before I got it, whether it happened before or after the theft, I dont know.

If I'm in park, and I move the shifter back and forth, there will be a very apparant clicking in the tumbler and once it starts to click, I can remove the key. On those certain occurences however, it wont let me do that either.

 

start all over again. give us more details like...what position is the key on when it is stuck? what is the position on the shifter when this happens? when car is on or off? do you feel a click in the shifter when you push on the brake pedal? stuff like that will help us to help you.

 

The vehicle is not running when it gets stuck, I can turn the vehicle off. It will click back into position two, now when you have to push the key inwards into the tumbler, it will get stuck. (when I mean push in....you have to push the key inwards and rotate the key towards yourself to remove it from the ignition). THATS when it gets stuck.

No clicking with the brake pedal. Shifter is in Park.

 

its in the shifter mechanism.. i have the same problem with mine... the shifter needs to be in exactly the right position to get the ignition to register the vehicle is in park.

 

yeah theres a switch or something in there that won't let you take the key out in any position other than park.
