Default f22a non-vtec vs. h22 vs. h23 head flow

I was talking to my local tuner about a g23 setup I want to work on. I've got an h23 spare head but he recommended I got with an f22 head because the stock to stock numbers the f22 head flows way better. I guess I can also go with an h22 head and then i'll have the benefit of vtec. I'm looking for the experts opinions on here for the most cost effective solution. He said he has a cnc package already programmed for an h22 head so he can give me a good price on headwork. I'm looking for the most cost effective solution.

Another thought would be intake mani and header solutions that are readily available and good for the head being used.

My setup is going to be 97 stroke 89 bore, with medium headwork, stage 2 cams, 12:1.

TIA!
-Chris

I know that collective Racing in tucson told me the potential for the F22 head was greater than that of the H22 or H23. It did require work a lot of work though. I was told about $1000.00 for work and I would be very happy.

I'd start a poll if I were you.

H22 vtec head, or F22 head

F22 will be cheaper either way, so for cost effective F22

I'd choose a H22 head so that I could run cams that would do a 89x97 motor justice but maintain a sane idle. But that's looking at it from a "street motor" perspective.

The F22 does have lots of potential. Bisimoto's engines are an example of that.

yeah I heard alot about busimotos motors. This is mostly going to be a street vehicle. I don't plan on racing it, except maybe a little autocross here and there just for fun. I have a buddy who would probably give me a hookup on his old h22 head

Collective Racing works with Bisimoto.

F22A heads are not much different than the H23s. they can flow 280CFM without too much work. F22 heads are also freaking common and dirt cheap. They are 15-20 pounds lighter than the H22 head and you can run Monster lift cams due to the available rocker arm travel.

But Bisi is about the only one that's pursued a camshaft profile other than simple regrinds as well as one of the few that's producing quality headers that fit the F-Series.

H22's can make lots of power with "shelf" parts while maintaining emissions standards but if idle quality and emissions are not a concern then I don't see why it would be that hard getting 220whp while maintaining a 1000rpm idle.

Do what you want. It's your money.

f22a heads flow better than the f22b heads

the f22 head has more potential because of a few things, but there is way less loss with just one cam and less valvetrain

from what I gather, valve angle, ability for more lift, less power loss from the single cam setup

It's gotta be good if someone can achieve sub-10sec qm with it. Any idea what Bisi's compression is?

Well that's why I'm asking around here, I want more than just 1 persons opinions and I know there are many knowledgable people here that can help me make a good decision. I don't have a lot of money to burn so i'm trying to find a good route to go. So crazy headwork is out of the question. And streetability is a factor, I need to pass emissions and I want something relatively easy to drive. I already have a spare h23 head so I don't have to buy another. But if I can find something for dirt cheap that will give me THAT much more then I might as well.

So I guess the question is now between the f22 head and the h23 head I already have. Will it be more cost efficient/power to get an f22 head and have that done up or have the h23 head I have done up.

I already have a DC header and 2.25 exhaust for the h23. If I do the f22 head I need a new header. Down the road I plan on getting a custom header eitherway I go. My goal is to have usable down low power to scoot me around.

I guess it depends on your power goals and your budget then.

A Dc header will support 200whp but I think you'll want a larger exhaust.

An H22 is not too hard to get 200whp from

An H23 is more dificult to get 200whp and you'll suffer on the driveability and emissions bit but can happen with "cheap" shelf parts.

An F24 can get 200whp but you're limited by expensive valvetrain options and exhaust manifolds and emissions, driveability will not be that great.

g23

h23 head
f23 block bored to 87mm
h22 pistons
Crower cam/valvetrain
Neptune, AEM...etc

Bisi is running ~17:1 compression
