Well, it seems that my car is eating a shitload of gas. I'm not sure why, I drive as calm as possible and my gas runs out way to fast. My car is a 97 EK hatch, single cam d16y7, cf hood, and konig heliums 16".

For example, I drive to Cerritos mall and back to Long Beach, and my gas is already gone. I put in 20 bucks and it gives me half a tank, (about 5 - 6 gallons). My friend has the same EK as me and his is heavier, and his car doesn't even use much gas. AND he drives like a dumbass. Basically, I'm putting like 20 bucks of gas every 2 days just to go to the mall and back.

Is it just me or is my gas eating too fast? I don't see any fuel burning from my exhaust so I'm not sure what to do.

(both of our cars are automatic)

by the way, when driving for 5-10 minutes, where does the avg. temp gauge on the cluster (to the left) stay at? my meter stays in the middle, is that common? sometimes it stays on the bottom. (my car never overheated before)

 

You should be getting around 28MPG if you drive the speed limit, usually... Check your spark plugs, wires, dizzy, fuel filter, injectors if possible..

Your temperature gauge should be about a 1/3 of the way from the bottom, never more than half.

 

well ****, it's at half, and im definitely not getting 28 mpg. im predicting about 10/mpg.

when checking, what should i be looking for?

 

Get an ACTUAL mpg reading - instead of estimates.

Reset your odometer when you fill up your tank, don't add any gas unless you're going to fill up - then the next time you fill up, note the amount of gallons, and what your odometer is at.

200mi/10gallons = 20mpg

 

you could have hole in your gas tank.

Just go thru the basic maintenance stuff first, then ask if that doesn't work.

 

im guessing its my spark plugs because it hasnt been changed for like 60k miles. but what kind of spark plugs should i get the 6.99 ones? or the platinum 12.99 one?

Very doubtful, but the 4.99 NGK stocks will work 100% (as they're OEM).

Hey syndicate! Will having a busted FPR screw up your MPG?I mean when I got my JDM D15B I changed everything fuel filter spark plu wire spar plugs etc.And even since I swapped it in I got POS gas mileage.What's next maybe its my FPR how can I check it?And if it is screwed up is it recommended to just replace it with a adjustable one instead of oem.I mean I'm going to be turbo very soon just waiting for my kid to be born and to the dyno it is! Thanx in advance for any input to my concerns

 

ill be replacing the spark plugs to check, they sell the ngk ones at autozone right?

 

i bought ndk platinums for 3 bucks each at advanced auto so they should have them at autozone.

 

don't forget about the auto trans. you should check everything with the motor first, but if the torque converter isn't locking up, then you can get some crapy mileage.

do you have any CELs? and does your CEL work?

 

how would i know if the torque converter isn't locking up?

 

change your O2 Sensors..

 

that's what i thought, but ****. it's frickin expensive, that's my last resort.

 

LOL... i know how you feel man. If anything, like i said before try the o2 sensors.. Most probs with people gas would be bad reading on the sensors. So yeah, make that your last resort since that is not a pretty penny LOL! Good luck

It's quite possible if you damaged the diaphram. If it's releasing too much fuel you could have a drop in the fuel pressure and it could be overloading the injectors.

Put on a new fuel pressure regulator and put a gage on it - the gauge goes through the banjo bolt on the fuel pump into the fuel pump (permanent), where there's just a bolt that holds the banjo bolt down now.

The gauge should be reading ~43-~48psi with the vacuum hose to the FPR disconnected.

errrm. i'm pretty sure the fuel pressure rises when the diaphragm is stuck close resulting in a rich mixture. At higher RPM, the vacuum is low to none resulting in the diaphragm closing. to check, I'd pull the vacuum line off the fpr to see if there is a change in idle. usually a stuck close fpr would idle or surge and have fouled spark plugs. correct way would to have a pressure gauge.

when you go down the road around 40mph push the gas down to accel moderately, it'll almost feel like it's shifting, but the rpm will jump, this is when it comes out of lockup. it'll do about the opposite when you go back to maintaining speed.

 

nah i don't get that, i just get a jerk everytime i put my car into D. it JUMPS! (i dropped my tranny once because i was bored and i was shifting from P to D non stop) a LOOONG time ago. but i got it repaired. i haven't changed my spark plugs just yet, i'll try that soon.

 

Well I tried removinf FPR hose and it started to rev by itself a little higher.Also I did some calculations on miles and I'm getting about sorry for the explanation but here it goes "on trip calculator I have 136 out from half my tank! I don't know if that's killometers or what but someone told me to reset and post it here!So that's what I got 136 out of half a tank!I don't think that's normal what should I look for?I mean **** even when I drive on grandpa status,please help since I'm desperate to figure out what's wrong
