Increasing HP on a 1992 LX
I have to admit that I know ALOT more about Civics than I do Accords. But my brother just bought a 1992 Accord LX. And he would like to improve the performance a little. Nothing REALLY expensive or radical, though. So an H22A swap is kindof out of the questin - at least for now. Anyway, I couldn't help but notice that the LX only produces 125HP/137TQ, while the EX produces 140HP/142TQ. Do you know what accounts for this difference? I figure that it is likely the cam and ECU tuning. But I could be wrong. Anyone know for sure?
Basically you got it right, it comes from a different cam, ecu tuning, and the intake manni. The f22a6 (the engine that comes in the EX) has a more aggressive cam and ecu tuning, and the intake manni has a plate that has 8 holes in it, 4 holes stay open all the time and 4 have butterfly valves that open up at high rpms.
So the difference is just the cam, ECU, and a two-stage intake manifold. Is the exhaust system different in any significant way? Of course, a header and catback would be the best solution here. But I don't know if he wants to spend the money.
You can get an easy 20-25WHP for like $600 bucks
Get a Prelude H23 intake manifold
Megan Racing or OBX header
Straight 2.5" exhaust w/a resonator and an oem-style muffler
And if you want, a Delta 272 cam
Sure fired way to make power on those motors with very little investment. Someone is running this setup, and they're making 140WHP. Another dude is running the setup with the cam, and making 152WHP, a huge jump from the 105-110WHP you *might* be making now
