I recently put new energy suspension shifter bushings on my 98 coupe and now it pops out of second quite often..could it be that they are possibly to tight or something...thanks for the help
it could be that and it could be that your tranny is going. My friend dom had a black coupe and the tranny was starting to go so everytime he put it in 2nd and 3rd it would pop out of gear and then later on 2nd and 3rd just stopped working all together.

From: TRILLINOIS....WAY downtown, jerky.
well it was working fine before you put the bushings in. So maybe you put something in incorrectly that isnt allowing the shifter to engage the gear all the way. Also, check your trans fluid. Low trans fluid levels cause this problem sometimes.

Hmmm, this is odd. I know my shifter bushings are shot since all the play I have in my shifter. I figured putting in new ones would help a little with my 2nd popping out as it wouldn't jerk around as much, am I wrong? I wanna get the master kit but I wanted to get the shifter bushings befoe hand if they will improve it.

can I ask if you actually have the spring pin in the linkage or is you tried the infamous 12mm bolt fix? if you have a bolt where the spring pin should be then you will have excessive play. wouldnt explain 2nd gear coming out tho

No I've never actally heard of that, I swapped out the motor not even 3 months ago and I have no clue if it had a bolt or spring pin. Would this be on the transmission end or the shifter end?

yeah i had some play in my gears with the stock bushings, now with these bushings i have no play and when im cruisin it will stay in second and once i let of the gas it will jerk and pop out..
My 98 Civic d16y8 (when I had it), starting popping out of second, after a shop telling me nothing was wrong 3 times, and replacing the shifter bushing, my friend drove it and said it was the tuning fork. I took it to a different shop and they said it was the tuning forks, I ended up getting a whole new transmission, rebuilt from Honda. Hope everything goes well for you!

ughhh tuning forks? hehe

its not a trick really. some people when they swap a motor wont reinsert the spring pin and opt to use a 12mm bolt in its place. it just results is a shifter thats floppy. again still doesnt account for popping out of gear.
